Is that a 350mm? If so, you can keep it. It's all about the 370mm.

I too was about to buy a prototipo but the UK price of a new one is now over $380 - I’ve got a vintage 350mm Personal Emerson Fiitipaldi from the 80s with some nice patina for around half that. Reading all of this I’ m glad I have!!!

Arrow Perfection

For reference this MOMO Prototipo is a 370 from 78. The leather finish is worn and it has a few scuffs, but the stitching is still intact.

I bought a 350 years ago to match my interior. What I hate about it, it's hard as a rock, no padding at all. Magnus had the right idea when he worked with Momo, or whoever in coming out with his own padded version. Should have bought one of those because I can't stand the feel of mine.

There was a thread about the new 370mm prototipo when it was released. Too late now but may have been an interesting read: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1112110-new-370mm-momo-prototipo-here.html

Its not just the steering wheels being poor copies or reduced quality the hubs have gone that way too ,one I bought off Ebay was rather poor quality, contacted the seller and got a rather rude reply and no offer of refund/return.
Spline was poorly cut and wheel was very tight on steering shaft, mounting holes for the cancelling ring were out by a fair margin and I had to dremel the hole for the wire to prevent it getting pinched.
The casting was very rough and the box it came in screamed crappy chinese cardboard with no mounting instructions as per the genuine box I still had from an older hub.
Sad times really for what used to be a quality brand ?.

I love my new wheel. I can see the gauges and the leather looks ok. I have the 350 also and not much different. But, then again, my car is a hot rod, not a garage queen, so there is that.

Just my opinion, glued or not, these Prototipo wheels are great. Mine is glued, as well, and I had to put my readers on to see the seam. I'm good with that. If I had bought a Singer or some other $XXX,XXX level car, I might expect a single piece wrap, but for a nice driver quality, good here!

I checked with Dallas Customs regarding the seams for the 3 spokes. They can recover your wheel either with or without seams. Just costs about $50 more for no seams.

Original Chinese wheel.

Wondering if the Chinese make fakes of their own stuff. Ha. Just a thought
