What's your all-time favorite drive? We all have em
In an effort to discover more and more "magic places" please share your favorite places to drive your Porsches...
Up here in northern Arizona we have several great ones; From Phoenix or Scottsdale, Prescott or Payson the byways through the mountains are incredible. Hwy 89 from Wickenberg up through Yarnell and the "Spars" (about 15 miles of twists and turns climbing a couplke of thousand feet) then through Prescott and out Hwy 89A to Jerome (over Mingus Mt) and down to Cottonwood, then over to stunning Sedona and on through Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff is everything a Porsche driver could ask for. Coming up through Payson you turn toward Camp Verde on 260 and meet 89 at Cottonwood. Either way you'll want to have a good camera, your favorite companion and a full day to feel that Porsche "slot-car" ride... Where are your favorite places to drive? ![]() ![]() ![]()

the "Kemmel" Run
preferably at night back in my home town , the little country roads where the anual European Rally is driven... lot's of up and downs , sharp hairpins, jumps and so on , mostly tarmac, some of it cobble stone to avoid during weekends and in the month when the actual rally is on , since the road is full of wannabe rally drivers in souped up hatchbacks and pooolice to catch the wannabes... also avoid those roads during harvesting season , unless you wanna go head to head with farm equipment ( you'll loose unless you drive a tank ) don't have any pics myself, since it's at night but here's a couple from the rally and from some other site, not my car ![]()

Best roads I ever drove were in the forests off of Rte. 74 East of Lake Ocoee in Tennessee. The most unbelievable linked turns and hairpins running along canyon walls.

Interstate 15 through Virgin river gorge in northwest Ariz.
Every time I go through there I almost get vertigo and crash from trying to look at the cliffs. ![]() ![]() highway 89 from Logan, Utah to Bear Lake (towards Idaho/Wyoming) is pretty darn hard to beat for scenery and twisties. Lots of elevation changes too. ![]() |

I'd have to agree with 75 carrera, 89 and 260 are great roads! I've always thought AZ Dept. of Trans was a little stingy in the road building department though. There are not enough roads in this state connecting one side to the other. Everyone else is on the few that we have (motorhomes, etc).
I grew up in Cali and there are hundreds of great roads from one end to the other. Of course it is a bigger state but there are small, twisty, back roads everywhere, many with little traffic. I do miss those...

Highway 38 from/to Big Bear.
My favorite road so far has been the back way (long way) from Big Bear Lake on Highway 38. It's a long road that's got plenty of tight bends mixed in with some stretches where you can easily top 100 (if you feel like it). Most of the road seems to run along the valley floor so you don't get much of that "if I slide off I fall a thousand feet" feeling. Awesome road. When's the next Big Bear Run? |

Washington State Highway 20 from Clinton (Whidbey Island) north through Deception Pass, to Mount Vernon (during the tulip festival), through the Cascades into Winthrop.

![]() Although we skipped the Whidbey Island/Deception Pass portion but added the last half of the loop through Twisp, Chelan, Leavenworth and Index. Another favorite is the road from Randle WA, down past the east side of Mt. St. Helens and on to Hood River, OR. Relentless tight twisties the whole way.

In CO from Ouray to Silverton. I've driven it in a blizzard at night ( with my avalanche beacon on I might add) and in the daylight after a fresh dump.. It's scary and beautiful,, I hope to do it in the summer in a P car someday.
