1976 Porsche 911 2.7 not starting

Please anybody, the car started when parked 1 year ago. Now i am breaking my head over a start problem, fuel pump works but not when installed in the car, engine turns puffs a bit of smoke and it looks like its going to start but is does not.

Fuel pump not working? I'd start with the relay under the hood. Either use a jumper wire to bypass the relay or try using your turn signal relay.

pingpong,

Test your FP. This test procedure will only take several seconds to confirm the condition of your FP.
  • Turn your ignition switch to ON position (NOT START).
  • Unplug the electrical plug to AFS (air flow sensor) located behind the CIS intake boot (pope).
The fuel pump should RUN with the ignition switch @ RUN position and the ground for the sensor plate is interrupted or disconnected for ‘76~’83 911 CIS. If the FP fails to run, there are several culprits to investigate namely:
  • Fuel Pump.
  • FP relay.
  • Electrical connections.
  • Etc.
Keep us posted.

Tony

Ran when parked or…Ran when parked to swap the fuel pump?

Was that a bench test of the fuel pump and it works but doesn’t when you installed, then I’d might wonder if it’s wiring or connection when removed/reinstalled.

What’s the gasoline situation, though gas usually won’t go that bad after a year but ethanol blend can be a problem when left to linger in the components and hose lines, low level in tank, gas can pickup moisture if you have big temperature swings, so if no gas additives were used during the storage period this could lead to staring issues if it’s a “Ran when parked issue”.

My 2˘.
