1989 Carrera Air Box Installation Questions
I want to fit my 1989 911 Cabriolet with a period-correct air box, replacing the K&N conical filter installed by the previous owner. I have confirmed with the local dealer that I have the correct air box.
I’ve searched the Google, Reddit and several forums (including this one😀 but cannot find detailed info on air box installation. It is also not contained in the Bentley service manual. I am hoping someone here has been through this or can point me to a good source for a detailed drawing. Here goes…Drawings are notated with corresponding numbers/letters: 1. Mounting screws to attach the hose guide in the following pic. Questions is, do they mount from the A side or the B side of the hose guide? 2. This port, I believe, receives the mesh hose that has been plugged and clamped and currently is tucked away in the compartment. Can you confirm this? 3. This hole would be on the bottom of the installed box. It appears to be for a mounting bracket, but, again, I cannot locate a part number for this as I cannot find a detailed drawing. I look forward to your insight, or even your best guess! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Q1: screws are to be inserted from the outside (opposite side of air box tabs) then into B side of hose bracket.
Q2: correct Q3: part number for this so-called bonded rubber buffer is 930 110 579 01. You need two of them for the air box.

Thank you, almostordinary! These drawings are much better than what I was able to find, regardless of how I structured my Google searches. The gasket is already on order, also.
Could I impose to post a picture of where the bonded rubber buffer attaches to the engine? I’ve heard that is may be a bracket that attaches to the plenum, but have not yet been able to confirm. Thanks again for your response! |

This image is in the right forward corner of your engine bay. No brackets needed, just the rubber isolators.

For drawings and part numbers, follow this link, scroll down, choose your model and year and click Display. This will automatically display the official parts catalog for your car (this will also download a copy of the file to your download location).
The page for the hose bracket is in section 104-01 (page 73 of this pdf). You'll see a complete illustration with parts 30, 31 and 32. You may need to source both washers (item 32) if you haven't kept them.
