Small disk found in float bowl

Hi

I have been struggling with dialing in carbs on my 67 911 with Weber IDA’s and tore them apart to give all the passages a thorough cleaning cause 1 or 2 cylinders seemed to not respond consistently to idle mixture adjustments. I am new to Porsche but not new to cars in general. When I pull the floats out I see what is below. In the bowl without the AP check valve, there is a small disk sitting on the bottom of the bowl. I thought, wow, they put a magnet in here! But not so much. It’s not metal, more like fiber. It seems to fit well in a hole in the bottom of the bowl that I “think” goes no where. It seems strange to me that they would use a fiber material in gas instead of a metal plug. Any ideas?

Thanks
Matt

There are quite a few fiber, metal, and rubber bits in the carburetors. The question is where was the one you found supposed to be.

Sounds like someone screwed up during the last rebuild. Proceed with bias on your rebuild.

Yeah there's not really any other good way for something like that to get in there, other than someone putting it there even if accidentally.
