911sc side skirts / rocker trim

Hello,

I’m having the side skirts / rocker trim repainted on my 911sc. I pulled them off and under each side on the rocker panels I found something different. On one side there was a white / yellow substance on the rocker (was this cosmoline?) and on the other side it was a dark, hard substance (maybe build up dirt and debris) I’d like to clean the rockers up before I reinstall the side skirts. Does anyone know if anything should be applied to the rocker panels before I reinstall the trim?
