What is that hole in the filter housing made for?

Hi. My car is 911sc 1979 Sportomatic. I found the hose which one end is connected to the air filter housing. The other end of the hose hasn’t been connected anywhere. Where should it be connected? Thanks

Underneath is a nipple that a hose connects too. The hose runs forward to a drain. it drains any oil that collects in the intake, mostly from the engine breather.

gled,

The SC’s don’t use this drain feature. Just plug it to keep dirt from getting inside the air box. The pre-SC (early CIS) has a breather hose connected between oil tank and air box and could cause oil residue to accumulate in the air box. So a steel tube oil collector was incorporated in the system. This was eliminated for SC CIS (1978~1983).
