Starting issue

81 SC 3.0 with CIS. Car has gone a refresh last year.
New wiring harness
Repaired CDI
Rebuilt dizzy
New Clewett spark plug wires
Hi-torque starter
Plus many other items.

Finally got around to starting it today but no success. Engine turns over, smell fuel, have fuel pressure, spark from coil to dizzy, checked that the spark plug wires are seated correctly but no spark on any spark plug wire to the spark plugs.

Going to check the connection to CDI but anything else I can check?

Green wire from dizzy-CDI. Should be 600 ohms between the two LH terminals (top and bottom) as you hold the open plug looking at you.
Power to the CDI box? One of the terminals should have 12v - can't remember which but just try them with meter - other than the two LHS ones.

Says he has spark from coil so that indicates a problem with the cap, rotor or wires.

Maybe engine ground wasn’t put back on if you did an engine out?

Yes car started fine before the refresh. The oil cooler leak was the cause of the refresh rabbit hole.

I checked for continuity between the chasis and the body and it was fine

Terminals 6 & 8 should carry the 12V. One is E and one +12V. Unfortunately I don't have the plug layout right now - but I think they are marked. If no 12V you will need to track back from that wire. Meter on either pin and other lead to an E somewhere should tell you which is the live terminal.

Start Up Problem……….

Ravi,

Were you using an inductive timing light for your start-up? It will tell you if you are getting good or poor ignition signals. It is very helpful to have one installed for your very first start-up run specially after an engine rebuild when so many things could go wrong. If you are getting strong ignition signals from the inductive timing light, then ignition is not the culprit. It is something else.

tried to post a pic for you, but not very good at that stuff.
As you face the CDI plug and the green wire terminals are LHS top and bottom, the voltage check wires are top row - far Rt, and 2 terminals along to the LHS, ie next to the top green wire terminal. If you are not getting voltage (12V) across these, you have found your problem.

Update
Checked the cdi using site
https://classic-retrofit.com/forum/index.php?/topic/491-cdi-quick-start-guide-read-this-first/#comment-857
12V between 31/1 and 15 -pass
600 ohms between 7 and 31d - pass
I reseated all spark plug wires
Tested continuity between dizzy and spark plug wire end - pass
Checked timing - pass
Removed spark plug from cylinder 1 and checked for spark - pass see image it was a white spark.
Going to clean the grounds and check if other cylinders are getting spark.

So you have spark now? And no start.

How does the cap and rotor look? When you crank with the plug out (or with an inductive timing light attached) do you see sparking?
