risky question - oil

hello everyone

I am working on a 1984 911 carrera convert. and I realize this can be a rough topic - types of oil - -I was looking at valvoline vr1 conventional in a 20w 50 weight - however when checking on valvolines site and others they say non compatible? i had thought i read on here or another that this was ok - or am I wrong - there may be better or different and you can let me know about that too (i am new to this i will gladly take all the suggestions i can get)

i am getting a Mahle filter and crush rings for the drain plug - in addition to the question about oil, is there anything else I will need? 10 qts correct?

thanks very much for any help you can give

Sean

If you use search you can find countless threads on oil.

I would advise you to utilize one of the existing threads as I don't know that the forum will benefit significantly by having an addition thread on the same subject.

Here's just one to get you started.

Penngrade 20-50 is what use. Recommended from shop that built the motor. I used 12 but have a very large front oil cooler.

Perfectly suitable for your car, save on the reading.

VR1 in two 1986 3.2l for many years now.

One with 65,000 miles and one with now over 210,000 miles.

Holds up well here in south Texas.

The oil threads can indeed be a "rabbit hole".
