Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.
Your stated chipped ring gear answered that question.

Any movement? Shop fed you all what they think doing, not too unusual. Get what you needed doing (ring gear?) so that you can drive it. Down on hp, who isn't, etc.. Simply ignore the rest unless it's terminal, explain the budget concerns, if they're professional an answer either way should produce itself.

The shop has been very busy and I got a call this morning. The ring gear is chewed up and the metal pieces are interfering with the flywheel sensors.
They are doing a clutch, ring gear and possibly a flywheel. The transmission is fine, its something in the shifter that is not smooth. We did not discuss the low power today, but I hope it's all related to the ring gear.

I am lucky. I have a fairly well set up home garage. I can handle a lot of the projects and fixes myself. If I get stuck, I can call the retired factory trained Porsche supervisor from the dealership. I had him rebuild my transmission and and change the 5th gear to a ratio that lowered my RPM by 500 RPM in 5th at 75 MPH. For my regular long cross country drives it is great.

One week to start working on a customer's car. This is a simple job, not a teardown to rebuild.

Is the car stored inside during the delay ?

I still haven't heard anything. They may be waiting on parts to be shipped. I hate to be the guy that keeps calling and asking when is it going to be ready when I know they are busy.

Understand these guys are reputable, but this says shoddy management, hope the actual workmanship isn't.

Yeah, the system... it certainly isn't perfect.

Update:
Picked the car up this afternoon, new clutch feels wonderful and I understand what he meant about the shifter feel. It is very stiff moving left to right, like its binding. The ring gear was mangled from a high torque starter that I had installed that did not work well with the ring gear.
The bell housing had collected the metal and it was grinding, and sticking to the magnetic crank sensors. they tidied up a lot of the hoses and wires that I had routed incorrectly. He was also not thrilled with the DME and my choice of chip,(he suggested sending it to Steve Wong to have the DME checked and get a chip.

I did have to add 4 qts of oil when I got home after a 70 mile drive. I am hoping it was either not filled all the way or it was the Liqui-Moly oil they used and I burned more. My wife said it was smoking when we left the shop for a few blocks(it usually doesn't have visible smoke).
Did I mention how smooth the clutch feels!

I had a little sticker shock with the cost, but I have that a lot lately.

Four qts of oil was too much, I'm about .25" from the top dimples on the stick so I would guess I put about an extra quart.

hmm, down ~ 3 quarts. maybe they overfilled it, sucked oil into intake on testdrive, then removed too much once they saw the oil needle pegged high? (maybe a newbie filled her up). That would explain smoke out the back and low oil, time will tell.

I had a performance chip installed in my 88 when i bought it in 2005. After about two years of rough idle and poor gas mileage, I found the original Porsche chip in the box of parts I had from the original sale. It cleared up the idle, the mileage improved, and I really couldn’t tell the difference in performance. It might be a good step to go back to stock to rule some things out. Good luck.

Okay I'm a week in on the fix, and damn I love this car! I have driven it almost every day since I picked it up.
I don't know if it's in my head or what, but even the seating position feels better(I never moved it when I picked it up).

Now things are going to break because I haven't driven it much in the last few years.
