1972 911 noise with ignition off
I was in the garage for a couple hours recently and every so often I would hear this noise coming from my 1972 911T.. It would last a few seconds . . thought first it was the clock messing up . . but maybe not . . could it be a relay in the frunk? Any ideas?

The early clocks are electro-mechanical. Every couple minutes they electrically rewind their springs with a light "clonk", I believe by flipping a small weighted gear over. That's my guess.
Easily tested by disconnecting the battery. More detail here on the mechanism: https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1095776-vdo-kienzle-clock-repair.html Last edited by thetorch; 09-30-2024 at 02:33 PM.. |
