12k RPM Tuthill 911K - There's a Conversion Kit?
Didn't know until yesterday this was something you could separately purchase (at "only" $37k). Has anybody gone down this pricey rabbit hole? Taking a 3.6 motor and and turning it into a 12k rev monster?

There are much more knowledgeable people than me on this topic but I believe there was mention of a few projects in the works with these heads over in the engine forum. However, I'd consider this more a piece of the puzzle rather than a conversion kit. To spin a 911 motor to 11k require much more than just new heads. I believe the Tuthill motor uses a custom case, crank, rods, and pistons among I'm sure many other parts.

To spin over 11k you'd be replacing the entire drivetrain (basically only keeping the 3.6 case). It only takes one youtube video to sell me on the prospect though

This is my dream. But why does it cost $1.1 million? My completely uneducated answer says to start with a $100k long hood and then add a $1 million drivetrain and then voila, you have the Tuthill 911K.

I thought the 3L version spins to 11k and 3.6 was a little lower?

I am so, so very happy that this kit did not arrive when I was pulling together the parts for my 3.4.
I would have been unable to resist, considering I have already acquired new case, new P/C's, cams, crank, rods, heads, valves etc etc etc. My budget is undoubtedly healthier, although now I have camshaft envy. Sigh.. D. |
