Electrical Socket Re-wire
Hello pelicans. I’m currently going through the electrical portion of my ‘75 restoration and I’ve come across a burnt up wiring in the front wire harness. The red with black stripe wire that connects to from the ignition socket up to the gauges has burned through the casing and I need to replace the entire stretch of wire. The trouble I’m facing is I’m not sure how to go about opening the socket up to replace it. Does anyone have experience opening one of these sockets up?
Thanks http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1725507236.jpg |
Not sure if those pins or plugs are removable or not. If they are should be able to push the clip in and pull the wire out. Timmy2 would know. This might help you https://www.kroonwireharnesses.com/porsche-911

Re-wire
These connectors are not made to be opened later. The pins are cast in a mold at the factory. The red-black wire is the power to all instruments and miraculously enough originally not provided with a fuse. This is an excellent moment to put an inline fuse in this circuit. Often (not always) the insulation where the wire enters the connector is still good, as long as that is the case you could extend it, preferably with a crimp connection. That is of course not ideal, if necessary we can supply a ready-made repair part but installing this is quite a bit of work. You will have to remove a lot of tape. Because this connector runs all the way to the battery and the fuse box. We can also supply the wiring harness new from stock. Part number is 911.612.002.13
