Transmission shop near Philly

I've searched and found a shop in Somerset, NJ but nothing near Philly. There's shop in Wilmington but no response from them to my voice message or email. If the Somerset shop is still good, that's not too far. I'd rather not ship it.

Any suggestions?

My 915 is out for a clutch change. It's LSD with about 200,000 miles on it. Works okay but first gear is getting a bit dodgy if I'm trying to put it in gear while at a stop. So nothing terrible but as long as it's out, I thought I'd give it some TLC.

Thanks
Dave

We rebuild 915’s all the time. Peter Dawe trained tech with hundreds of trans under his belt. We sell to retail customers as well as some air cooled shops around the country. Very reasonable pricing since we don’t have a fancy shop to maintain. Located in Chadds Ford, PA. I can have one of our guys pick up and deliver if you don’t have the right vehicle to transport the box. PM me or email - Mark@MarkEpstein.net

Bit further away, but Protosport in Whippany, NJ (western NJ) as well. Lots of air-cooled experience.

Ok, that sure blew up my email - in box. :-). Here’s an unflattering shot of a box we are finishing up for a manufacturer of Porsche parts. We also do a lot of custom, close ratio boxes. It really wakes up the car. I can ship door to door in a large igloo cooler if you aren’t near by. I’ve done Canada, Australia, UK & Japan.
A question was asked about later boxes (g50,964, 993) we have a local partner with 20+ years of experience who specializes in those boxes.

Ivan,

I rebuilt my 915 transmission more than 20 years ago and still flawless. But I wound recommend to contact Mark E. for your transmission needs. He has a good team of experienced people to do both engine and transmission rebuild. Plus he is reliable and dependable.

Mark,

Do you do 930 boxes as well? Mine's coming out soon and I'd like to get it resealed and gone over for any issues. It shifts well but with 160k on the clock and 35+ years in the car it's ready for a check up.

My transmission, the one in Mark's photos, has about 200,000 miles on it. It's off my 1980 SC.

The transmission has been delivered back to the owner. I’m hoping for some feedback once he gets a chance to get it back in the car.

I am that owner and I can't wait to drive it. Thanks again Mark. It looks fantastic.

Hi Mark,
Quick question.
Does the Case come out that clean with the parts washer or do you Vapor Blast the case?
Thanks in advance
Kevin

Unfortunately, the steam parts washer only removes the oil, grease dirt and tar. Then it gets vapor blasted, rinsed and ultrasonic cleaned. Rinse and repeat as needed. We have about $35k in the machines and constant fees for consumables like media, soap, filters, etc.

As I told Dave, the important part is all inside the case but it’s nice to have something that’s clean and easy to inspect for wear and defects.
