What's this part? Throttle cable felt broken!

This part has failed...I had to have my Targa transported home then to my mechanic.
He's found that this part has failed...the connection in the red box has detached from the ball joint which is on the engine....does anyone know what this part is, and is it just something that wears with age? Couldn't find any good diagrams of this part of the car in the Bentley service manual.

Taking a guess here since you mentioned the throttle felt odd. Is this the part in the engine compartment you need?

Hi. It would be helpful to tell us your year and model of the car.

Also, You can download the parts book (aka the PET) from Porsche here: https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/classic/genuineparts/originalpartscatalogue/. This will help you identify the part you need.

There are three different kinds used on Air Cooled’s. Right Hand thread short length, Right Hand Thread Long length, and Left Hand Thread short length. Always measure the position of the rod end on the rod, measure the tread engagement, and compare the old and new.

The ball comes loose from the lever sometimes. Need to squeeze it back in place and do a small mig weld on the inside. Carreras have no room to get at it, so either the manifold comes off or the engine out, yer choice.

I would add that some of the rod end have small hole through the cup end, off center for a separate clip that helps hold them on the ball.

as pd996 mentions, there is a retaining clip on some of these. if you look closely at the pic TibetanT posted you can see the holes that it passes through,

Clip part number 900-169-014-02 available from our host
