Let's talk sun visors -- 911SC
So, I have the original visors in the car and predictably they're the puffy old mess. From what I've read, there area a few options out there and I'd like some more recent opinions on the subject.
1) Refurbish through a company like Vinyl Specialties (autosunvisors.com). I've read this in a few places, that they can take your current visors, slice them open, replace the innards, and re-seal. But I hear that you lose the passenger mirror. 2) A number of companies have been mentioned that offer replacement visors. Just to name a few: - Porsche Classic (expensive) - Sonderwerks (getting a lot of ads for them recently) - Sierra Madre (don't really look OE to me) - 914 Rubber (doesn't look like they have them for SCs) The Sonderwerks ones look pretty nice, but I haven't seen them in person. Has anyone else looked at the current offerings themselves and come to any conclusions that might be helpful? |

There are some guys in Turkey selling them fairly inexpensively. My guess is as good as yours on quality.
I'm thinking of re-doing mine myself. There are a few YouTube videos on the subject. I figure, if I fail, I'll just buy new ones. I've seen the Sonderwerks ads too - they look pretty good.

I had mine done by Vinyl Specialties maybe 15 years ago and has held up well. The covering was new, not cut open and resealed.

I ordered these:
Based on this thread: https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/750345-cheap-sunvisors-talk-early-911-better-ideas.html I’m happy with them so far, but only installed them in October, so not a lot of miles yet.

I bought the 914 Rubber set from our host^ for my SC. Have had them on the car for over a year. Having since seen a lot of Sonderworks cars in person & briefly having met Dave himself, I’d add theirs to my shortlist too.

Anyone else have any opinions on these before I make a decision and put an order in?

Not knowing better, I ordered a set of the Dansk reproductions from Rennline. They look quite OK, but aren't yet installed so I can't comment on longer term quality. Since then, I've also grown allergic to anything made by Dansk, though sun visors are obviously not the same animal as fenders.
I will mention that Sonderwerks was great to deal with when I ordered a frunk liner, they even made custom mods for me to fit it around my strut brace. Based on the customer service level and product quality I experienced there, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again. Theirs are only a few bucks more and probably a better product than most.

Mine are currently at Classic 9 in Dearborn Heights, MI for refurbishment. Awaiting info on a return date.
Have Sierra Madre replacements and they just do not look right. I cannot bend them to fit the interior contour of the windshield frame. This prevents getting them completely "up" and close to the headliner. Not a huge deal but I can't stop noticing this.

I had mine recovered by a local car upholstery place. They did them in the right color, and they work and look great. No more little useless mirrors.

I had mine done by a local upholstery shop, I provided the black leather. I also would not hesitate to send them to Dave at Sonderwerks.
