What tire for 16x9 fuchs? 225, 245 45 or 50

Hey, there seems to be only one tire available for the factory size 245 45 x 16 that is streetable but it is far out of my price rage.
I read guys put on 225' that run "wider" not sure how i can tell what tires run wider or not. Or go with the 245 50 x 16 but get the "balloon" look which i really don't like, i would rather have a tire that is not wide enough.

Any recommendations?

ADVAN A052 - Size: 245/45R16

I think these are the least expensive street tire you can get in 245.

I have them on my 328i and love them. Still have 245 RE11s on my 911 which will last at least another year and then I'll go to these.

The 225/50 tire works well on a 16x9. It looks good with a 205 front and fits fine without having to do anything special. That's the combo on the brown car below with 16x7/9 wheels.

Here are the same wheels on a different car with a 225/50 front and 245/50 rear. The tires rubbed and didn't look great. They could be made to fit with rolled fenders and alignment changes but the 205/225 works better and there are way more street tire options, if you aren't interested in cramming the widest tires on the car. The 245/50 is almost an inch bigger in diameter than the 225/50. A 245/45 is nice the back but there are are very limited options in a street compound (the Yoko above looks like more of a track tire).

Michelin Pilot Sport 225/45/16 on the rear, 205/50/16 on the front, Euromeister 16 x 7 and 9's. Not had any issues with the 225 on the 9" wheel. The "stretch" is a bit different on the rears vs. the front, 245 would be a better match. I thought about a 195 on the front but didn't want to give up any traction.

Just a quick note, these tires are really great if they match your intended use. They're in the "extreme performance" category. This means they are built performance first - they're at their best in the warm and dry, perfect for autocross, and can take the heat of a moderately driven track day, and work fine driven to and from the event. If your primary use is cruising on the street, there are some trade-offs.

This particular tire happens to be quite good in the wet compared to its competition (RE-71R, Rival S) but note there's not a lot of channel for water evacuation so standing water performance isn't great. I've heard these ride fairly well and aren't too noisy for the category, but they're not going to be like a Michelin PS4S daily comfort wise. They also don't like to be cold, even stored in the cold, so note that. And of course the compound is super soft to be so sticky, so expect accelerated wear - of course not an issue if you only drive a few thousand miles per year.

Yes the Yokohama's are too much track for me, would like a more moderate tire. Actually the 245 50's do not look as tall as i expected but the 225's on Bills white car i think i even prefer.
Bill, is the tire actually flush with the rim or is the rim sticking out?
The 225 tire is supposed to be 8.86 inches, but that probably varies from tire manufacture to tire manufacture. My car is a wide body so not sure if that matters with direction to go.

The tire actually sticks out about 1/2" plus or minus. I didn't want this look...

regular Porsche spec is 245/45 for a 9x16

on track, pushing hard cornering I wouldn't use a 225/45 (too streched)

the 245/50 is indeed more homogene to the front 205/55 (sidewall bulk look)

The best fit on a 9x16 is 245/45x16, there are only a few different manufacturers for that size

225/50 is spec'd for a max of an 8" wheel max, a 1" stretch is pushing it

225/45 is spec'd for an 8.5" wheel max, a .5" stretch is usually ok

245/50 is spec'd for an 8.5" wheel max, a .5" stretch is usually ok, but it is way too tall

I'd go for 205/55 on 7 & 245/45 on 9, In no particular order P7, P0 Rosso, 888, A052

or 205/50 on 7 & 225/45 on 9, A052, Toyo R1R, 888, DirezzaZ3

Wjdunham, there is no way a 225 will look like that on a 9 inch rim.
I think depending on the tire the rim and tire are flush. Anybody here with a real 225 on 9 inch rim wheel picture?

That second pic was meant to be a joke :-)

The first pic I posted of my car has 225 on a 9" wheel on the rear, and the tire is not flush with the rim, tire is about 1/2" proud.

People get too scared and worked up about performance tires. The only thing I regret about running three consecutive sets of the Toyo R888R is not feeling like I should drive it under 40* but I have. I've driven it quite a bit in rain, I've even briefly driven it in snow, but mostly I've had a lot of fun driving it fast. You live in Atlanta.....and it's a performance car for Christ's sake. Put your all-season touring tires on your Camry you drive to work.

By spring I'll be trying the A052s.

other thought is to consider ditching the 16x9 and instead going with 16x8 rears -- this would let you run 225/50-16 without issue. Are the Pirelli p-zero rossos the ones that are out of your price range?

Patrick, yes I live in Atlanta and no the low temp is not what i am worried about, we were close to 70 last week, even though it is freezing today. But rather that i dont need performance since i will not track the car, yes it is good to have it, i agree. But the Toyo Proxes T1R seem to be perfect, dont konw why they were not listed earlier. I would be everything i did not see them listed on tirerack yesterday and now they are. Thanks sugarwood for the info.
Anyway, thanks everyone for the feedback and input guys.

While T1R is available in 245/45 x16 there is no reasonable matching front tire for it.

Bill beat me to the punch. Before you pull the trigger on any 245/45s, make sure the same tire is available for the fronts, 205/55. You don't want different tires front and rear. This really limits your choice to the Pirelli P Zero Rossa for a street tire. I know they are costly, but I think if you stretch your budget and go with these tires, at the end of the day you'll be glad you did. And I agree with Bill that the best size combo is as noted above, 205/55 front and 245/45 rear. This keeps front and rear overall diameters the same and puts proper size tires on these rims.
