Broken Seat
I noticed the driver seat was able to tilt forward without using the lever and the seat back felt a little loose. Pulled the outside cover and found this:
![]() Here's a video - https://youtube.com/shorts/zvSLK35j6TI?feature=share It appears that the washer that was holding it in place disintegrated. Here's the view from the outside cover of the passenger seat: ![]() Can this be fixed? Any ideas on parts? I'm wondering if the highlighted part below was a previous repair attempt... I don't see it on any of the other mounts: ![]() Appreciate any thoughts. |

![]() ![]() Took my seats apart a while back. How the hinge worked... memory is not what it used to be so can't speak in precise detail. Do recall how things generally set up so I can offer some insight. Looking at the vid, it's clear that the pivot for the hinge is gone. I'd be looking to drill whatever is remaining out and tap it for a new pivot bolt. Not sure that's a good solution but rather it's the first that comes to mind. Have to question drilling that out before doing so. And is there enough metal there to tap into? And what kind of bolt will go in there so the cover can be put back? A number of questions to answer before going down this path. The idea is to get some form of a "pivot" put back in there. The "how" of that can take any number of paths. I think to replace that bracket with the hinge might----might----be major surgery. Not sure about that. Seat tilting forward without needing to be released to do so sounds like a "disconnect." If you have that lever on the side of the seat for "tilt control," there's a rod that runs from it to the hinge area. I'd suggest looking at that rod's connections being a starting point for that. Might be possible to inspect that rod's connections with the seat in the car but much easier (in my opinion) to deal with this seat stuff by removing the seat from the car. There are two Allen bolts at each corner of the seat to undo. Might be some electrical wires so look carefully before lifting the seat out of the car.

where is the video?
do you still have the video showing the seat hinge repair??
I cant figure out how to get the inside sleeve part back in, circled in photo.. I cant seem to get the backrest off the hinges to make it easier in order to push it into the hinge. I pushed both sides of the parts into the backrest but still cant get the back rest off the hinge. trying to get that sleeve into the hole looking through the small space between the hinge and the seat back while to tiring to line it up. hard to do! Hey wish76! I have an '86 3.2 carrera with the exact same problem. I can't find any existing e-clips OR the washer ring you show in the reassembly so will need to buy new ones.
Could you please confirm exactly what size e-clip and washer rings you acquired to do the repair? 🙏 Cheers Mike |

Awesome, thank you!
Anything else to note in terms of the reassembly? does the e-clip and washer fit as per your image both on the outside of the hinge? |

I wish I documented the repair better, but to be honest, once it snapped into place I quickly forgot about it 🙄 |
