Snap-off quick release and Momo steering wheel

Hi all

I’ve just recently taken ownership of a 1976 targa and I’m going through a number of small upgrades at the moment. One of which is adding a Snap-Off quick release for a bit of extra security when parked in public places, getting in easier etc.

However, I’m struggling to wire up the horn correctly.

Before the quick release, there was just a single wire running to the horn (one of the pictures). I assume that is was grounded by direct contact with the hub.

However. The quick release has two connections. I figure I should add the existing cable to one, which will then make contact with the connector on the horn. But I’m not sure how to establish the ground connection?

Maybe I’m missing something super simple here but I’ve been scratching my head over this for a while now

In a nutshell you need a second wire.

It's been a while since I did it, but I think I just zip tied a wire with ring connector to the hole on the bent piece of the steering wheel hub to establish ground.

I have the same set up in a drawer, waiting to install, and have been looking for similar answers.

Hopefully you find an answer and post results - initially was scratching head also...

I may be wrong, I believe the steering wheel itself creates the ground. I would try it without connecting it. If it doesn't work you will maybe put a female end on it and use one of the bolts that connects it to the column that turns, example the spacer.
