Losing hydraulic fluid G50 slave leaking?

Hi all,

I have no issues with the clutch, but my brake fluid reservoir keeps draining. I put cardboard underneath everything and I have a steady drip just in front of the transmission drain plug. It looks like fluid is leaking from the small keyhole where the bell housing meets the engine and you can see the flywheel teeth. I can't see the slave cylinder, haven't taken the left rear wheel off.

Brakes work fine, and shifting seems fine (1-2 are a little rougher than 3-4-5) so wondering if this is something I can replace in place or do I need to drop the motor? Having never done that, I'm hoping this won't be the first time

Thanks in advance!

MJ

Clutch Slave Cylinder……

MJ,

Remove the inspection cover at the G-50 transmission by driver side rear wheel. Pop off the rubber cover and do a visual inspection. I just replaced the clutch slave cylinder recently. A little tedious job but worthwhile.

Thanks Tony, I will take the left rear wheel off and look for the inspection cover. I took a quick look with the car on the ground and didn't see it but I can't really get under there. I'll post back when I get it up in the air and some pictures in there.

Endoscope Camera……….

I used an endoscope camera for inspection attached to my IPad. It was difficult to have a good look in the cavity specially if you wear bifocal prescription glasses. Getting off the old slave cylinder was easy but putting the replacement slave cylinder was tricky if you’re working alone. Just be patience and you will persevere. Good luck.

Am I correct that the inspection door is underneath all this grime?

Oh yes, my eyes have given out the last year so endoscope will be my approach as well.

Everything else looks clean around there, except that area.

Ok update now that I had some time to get the car up in the air. I cleaned off all the grit, inspected the slave cylinder and there are no leaks externally at the line. I filled the reservoir back up and within a few minutes the drip came back. It is leaking out from the bottom inspection slot. When I removed the upper inspection cover, I was able to take a picture of the slave cylinder piston connection point, which looks to be covered with fluid.

My clutch pedal finally started getting soft so the first 1/2 of the travel doesn't have any pressure, so air got in somehow as I was working on this.

Here's two pictures

I've only had the car for a few months, but I have installed a Jwest short shifter and bushing, and replaced the driver's side floorboard. Is it possible I've done something in that to cause this to fail? Over-travel of the pedal or something?

I assume this means I need to put a new slave cylinder on as the next step, but just wanted to get more insights.

Thanks

MJ
