MAF & Delta ECU Kits for 964, Anyone used one or seen one live?
I am curious is anyone has seen these in the wild? It looks to me like Specialist Comp may make the Sharkwerks kit (looks like an exact duplicate), and the Design911 kit looks very similar, but with the Delta 700 vs the 400 ECU. There are other versions of this out there, I just picked these three as examples.
I have been interested in getting ride of my AFM on my 3.6 conversion, and I don't want or need to go ITB for $$ reasons, don't need the power, etc, etc. I was looking into the MAF conversion kits that maintain the DME, then I saw these and thought "why keep the 30+ year old Moronic DME technology?" Seems like a happy medium between a MAF conversion, and full ITB with Motech or something similar. Specialist Components MAF & ECU Kit for 964 Sharkwerks Kit For this one go to Design 911 UK site, get their URL, put this at the end of it to find the page. STUPID and overly protective Pelican bans the URL here. /p/pie-performance-964ppt-964ppt-ecu-and-ignition-system-conversion-kit-for-porsche-964/ SCS Delta ECU's

FVD offers a 964 MAF setup
I don't have 964 MAF upgrade experience (although, have had Autothority on a 3.2 and Sal Carceller's on a 3.4).
Scott Longballa had the FVD MAF setup on his former '87's high-compression twin-plug 3.4 and he RAVED about it. Therefore, by the transitive property of MAF reasoning (or, would that be a priori reasoning? I forget) I bring the FVD Mass Air Flow Performance Set 964 - Sport - + 30 to + 50 Hp Gains + BMC Filter - 93 Octane US setup to your attention (I agree, that A) that's a MOUTHFUL and B) that those HP claims seem rather sensationalistic)... https://share.google/8OAX4bwnUdm8qX8HG Anywho, I'd imagine that someone with a posteriori knowledge will share it here, but, in the interim, enjoy a free bump. PS: Personally, I like the idea of FVD's offering that incorporates a full air box (vs an exposed cone filter)... ![]() IME, cone filters make "sucky / slurpy" sounds during part throttle acceleration, under load. I wasn't looking to pimp my Porsche, so yeah... ![]()

Frank, I had to wipe coffee off my screen after that eloquent and funny diatribe. Love it!!
I too like and looked at FVD's setup, and others like it. As Sal has said many times on here though, converting a MAF to behave like our AFM for the sake of the DME is a challenge, and hamstrings its potential vs a standalone ECU. It slows down the reading speed (10ms to 100ms I believe were his numbers), and we are still limited by the DME's 30+ year old computer technology. Since my second cappuccino of the morning went all over my screen, I am not caffeinated enough to calculate how many Moore's Cycles that is. ![]() Again I love setups like the FVD, and was/am considering that too. The FVD setup is $3,644 and the SC setup is $2,921 at the current exchange rates. SC gives you the full speed and resolution of the MAF, and a new ECU that is far more advanced than the DME, plug and play setup (no wiring changes needed), a good base map (apparently), ability for tuners to tune with windows software (have Steve Wong et-al work his magic in it, etc). For the nerds out there you can also get traction control, launch control, CAN Bus, ODBII, etc. Yea you don't get a nice air box, but the SC system (and Sharkwerks as well) seems almost too good to be true? Thats why I mentioned them here. Surely someone some where has run into them?

Seems like the other alternatives are more advanced. Love the upgrade / plug 'n play aspect of those other solutions (anyone approaching a body side factory wiring harness with a pair of wire cutters should be shot, or at least lead piped to the knees)! Good to know that's out there. While visions of 3.5 EFI builds dance in my head (as my second child is about to go into college no less, UGH!), I am curious as to what the 3.6 state of the art bolt-ons are these days because you just never know what's gonna end up on your garage floor / in your engine compartment. Also, I want to help / cajole / shame my 964 bros into spending money on their cars. To wit, here... Have aLilBump to keep the discussion top of forum... ![]()

I've got the FVD kit on my stock 3.6 with recent top-end rebuild.
The FVD kit really woke up the car, much more pull at higher RPMs. What is missing, IMO, compared to the other kits is my ability to tap into the ECU and adjust idle speed, cold start idle, trigger an idle bump when the A/C in running, other nice things like that.
