911 SC suspension and brakes on a 911S

I have a complete 911 SC front and rear suspension and brakes from a early 80's car in excellent shape. My 911 is a 1977 911S. Can I upgrade the suspension and brakes from the SC as a bolt on swap, or is there more to it?

It's a bolt on

So second question would be whether this is worth the time and effort. I am assuming the brakes are improved on the SC over the 911S?

My 77 had pretty much the same suspension as an 78 SC. My 75 was completely different with 3" front calipers and Boge struts and non adjustable spring plates.

Of course certain cars had upgraded suspension so it depends on what you are swapping. Likely there's no upgrade.

Exceptions, Koni would probably be an upgrade, but need new inserts so it's kind of a moot point.

The crossmember may have been steel (but I think by 77 they were aluminum too) so put in the lighter aluminum crossmember if it's not bent or damaged.

If it's all in better shape then yes it's worth it.

Some other factors would be "how old are either sets of dampners?"

How do the TBs look? Use the best ones, are they different?

The 77 is slightly lighter than the SC so I think they did change Torsion Bars for the SC but that's something you can look up.

Do you want to lower the car? I'd take the best struts and send them to elephant and raise the struts. (12mm or so for 15" wheels in my experience)

Bump steer kits.

The brakes are the same to my knowledge as I think the 76 and 77 came with 3.5" struts so it's the same caliper A and M (going off memory) as the SC. You could upgrade to Carrera brakes which have a thicker front rotor, or go with the aluminum S caliper which is more period correct imho.

There's a lot to think about if you are going through the trouble of suspension swap.

I looked at it for my 75 and decided Carrera brakes would be the better upgrade. I did the Carrera brakes (not bolt on) and it's been great. After doing it all I talked to Bill V here and friends at Rothsport Racing. Both said Carrera brakes were not really much of an upgrade, and the real upgrade that is noticeable would be 930. Just my experience.

The 2 different front brake setups
A caliper w/ 3.5" mounting ears, using a 78 x 70mm pad
M caliper w/ 3" mounting ears, using a 62 x 56.5mm pad

otherwise the same in all respects, including available brake torque

the only thing extra is that the A pads will last a ~50% longer

The shocks are likely the same Boge versions, but Bilstein hd(green) were an option so maybe one of them has these.

Boge is a twin tube design and has a longer travel and is generally considered more comfortable(like Koni), Bilstein is a single tube upside down gas shock, generally considered to be more sporting

t-bars were the same

SC sways were 20/18mm
'77S sways were 16/16mm
