1974 Sport Seats?

There is a 356 on BAT now with seats that people have indicated are 1974 factory option sport seats. They certainly look like the sport seats that I was aware of for 1974 and on - but the headrest is separate, like the 1973 and earlier seats. I looked at the Porsche PET and it does not show these seats. Were they actually factory options?

I have never seen seats with separate head rest as "factory" on a 74-on car. That said my 1975 clearly has a few strange things on it that were "pre-74". 356's that I know of never had seats like that in them, maybe 911's did. Maybe they were swapped out by someone long ago in the cars history, and someone thought they were from a 1974 when they were from an earlier car? Maybe they were a special order from early 1974 when Porsche had left over seats from earlier?

Bottomline to me, if you like them keep them. Hell I just had my non-sport seats from 1975 (tombstones) converted to low back sport seats with a separate head rest, because I like teh look and feel of them. I don't think these seats hurt the cars value at all, unless it is a VERY rare 356. Remember we are not Corvette owners!

Those look like a 911 sport seat base & hinge with BMW backrest. Or someone added the headrest to a 911 back which is more likely given the bolster size and shape.

Says modified sport seats. My guess someone had them modified by putting the separate headrest in them so they looked more like a 356 style seat, while given support etc like a more modern 911 seat. Nice car!

Are you bidding on the car? Are you asking because you want similar looking seats for your car?

Maybe a bit bulky for the 3-5-6, but attractive for sure. That car is a LOOKER !!!!

Porsche didn’t officially offer a 74 factory sport seat with a separate headrest. If those in the BAT 356 have that look, they’re most likely earlier sport seats, or an aftermarket version, not something that came from the factory as an option in 1974.

They are recaro made Idealsitz. Same shape as the '74 sport seats but with separate headrest.

Or, most likely seeing the upper backrest, modified factory sport seats. Same result.

Yup. Recaro Idealsitz. Unlikely that anyone would go to the trouble of cutting up sport seats just to create something that's already available. Occam's razor.

Beautiful car and seats. Are we sure they are not another Recaro version for say a BMW (gasp)? They look familiar to me. The top part of the seat is different from the seats already referenced..

There are 2 different seat designs mixed, or 3 depending on which ones you choose.

They have 74-80 911 sport seat bases.

74-80 backrest bolsters

BMW Recaro backrest center panel, center frame and headrest
