Managed to lock the driver's door while it was open; now it will not unlock.
New to me 1982 911SC. Was setting in it checking everything, windows, lights, passenger door lock and then while the driver's door was open I tried to actuate the lock... it was difficult to rotate the door lock but it rotated; click it's locked.
Now for the problem. I didn't know it's not supposed to lock while the door is open and it's stuck in the locked position. I may have made madders worse because I rotated the door latch to the closed position, thinking that may solve the issue. How can I unlock this door mechanism? The door interior panel is removed but I cannot see what is needed to unlock the mechanism. |

Spray graphite lube & wiggle the key, a lot. Hard to remove door card with the door shut.

This latch mechanism is jammed. I took linkage off of the interior locking knob and cannot actuate it by pushing on the link rod. I’m thinking that I’ll have to remove the latch to figure out how to get it unjammed.

What about the lock on the door handle mechanism? Sometimes this gets stuck and prevents the latch from unlocking.

You have manual locks And you have the door card panel off - right?
Obviously you forced the linkage (down) to close driver door which was a feature intended to avoid locking keys inside and likely jammed linkage onto itself. With door panel off look at the mechanism, you should be with mirror and flashlight how the locking stem and locking knob actuate the latch pawl. There’s a couple, so moving or pushing it up or down should release it. Here’s a look at a mechanism. A few articulating functions. I can’t say which controls what. Shows the latching pawls (catch) up or down. Keeping in mind one actuates the door interior handle, one for the stem and another for the knob. Use of a mirror and a screwdriver will be needed to pry or nudge these loose and out of the way and release from the tension. If you release the tension spring - they may be difficult to reattach. The linkage rods can be removed and out of the way by pulling them out from the little plastic bushings and will help too, easy to get these back in. Rods should be straight and my first try would be the rod that controls the lock stem then the knob and where these attach at the mechanism. You don’t want to tug or pull on the rods and bend them. ![]() |
