Oil Tank Cleaning
I had this hot tanked and cleaned along with the oil cooler (not hot tanked as it’s too caustic for aluminum).
I am super happy with the results. But want to do a final cleaning on the inside of the tank. Thinking slosh a bunch of diesel around inside til clean? ![]()

When I Cerakote tanks, I use acetone sloshed and spilled out until it runs clear/clean.

Acetone is a great solvent. I would use something cheaper and less volatile first. If there's still crud in it, then go for the stronger solvents. Gasoline works very well too. Of course, keep the fire extinguisher handy when working with any volatile solvent.

Ah. Good idea. I sloshed some acetone around and got most out- it was hot tanked so pretty clean already but I think the more I can clean it the better.

Would it be beneficial to throw in some small bearings, nuts and bolts, in addition to acetone/gas/etc. to remove any baked on debris?

It’s stainless steel, which is nice.

I’m not sure it is stainless steel, I think it is more likely rust-resisting steel. I have seen these corrode through

I was thinking it was steel, because of the brass (?) hose connections welded/soldered to it.

If you are careful, gasoline is probably the best solvent to use in the oil tank. It was the only thing that got rid of the brown buildup inside mine. Don’t add any ferrous metal nuts, balls, etc though….ignition hazard.
