Anyone ever tried these tires?
Just got a new set of tires to ry next weekend at the track.
Has anyone ever tried these tires before? They are Silverstone S575 tarmac rally tires. They are a dry weather tire only, hence not many groves. ![]() ![]()

Those tires look like they are basically slicks with a few grooves to make them roadworthy, are they DOT certified? I'd never heard of them, but they look like they'd be nice and sticky. More info would be cool.

The Silverstone gravel rally tires have a "budget" rep here in the U.S.--good for light weight, low power cars. They're imported in the U.S. by the Tabors and they do list the tarmac tires: http://www.taborrallyteam.com/silverstone/silverstone.html

What are the tread numbers? Traction, tempeture, speed rating and such? They look cool,, but so does a mullet in Canada

Rally I'm not up on track tires as you seem to be. I'm always the kid in the front row with the question. So, how are track tires rated other than wet or dry? Do they have numbers like the balls at a bowling alley, would my big sister take a 16? Would I be okay with a 12? If my girlfriend used a 14 would I need to hurl at least a 15 to have her respect me later?
One last question regarding track days,,, how do you cope with helmet head between runs? Regardless of hair style. |

I will be on the track next week-end, as I have change nothing on the car except the tyres I will have a bench mark.
I have been running Yokohama A008Rs for the last couple of years but I used up the last of my stocks. I have a friend who has been running them on his Datsun 240Z for the last year or so and he puts in very good times. BTW they are cheap you can get 4 tyres for the price of 3 Dunlop Formula Rs. According to the guy who sold them to me they have a speed rating weight rating and a measurable tread depth so they must be street legal. My next door neighbour is a cop and he thinks they are pretty cool. Good to see mullets are still cool in Canada, I may have to move there.

they may be street legal in Austrailia, but here we have stupid laws that are outdated when it concerns tires. They must have a continuos tread pattern that seperates the tire into three sections if I remember correctly, so I don't think they are street legal here in the U.S. too bad. I wonder how many tread designs have been scrapped for ones that aren't as effective because of our laws.

If you track those, you probably will be able to get them warm enough to have some grip, but if you Autocross them, I am guessing they will have a hard time gettig up to temp, especially with lower powered, light car (cough***my 914***chough). If they offer a soft compound, that might be better for lighter cars. I sthere a rep in the USA that sells these?

Hi Steve,
They look completely Porn. (This is a good thing). I have a set of Falken Azenis' that are in need of replacement (7,000k's, 5 track days) and am looking for alternatives. Never heard of these, I would be interested to find out if they are available in rainy Melbourne. Can anyone also let me know if having a moustache AND a mullet will get me laid in Canada. (With chicks, not other dudes).

Ran them for the first time on the track on Saturday.
Impressions are very good grip, especially on the first corner at Queensland Raceway which is a 90mph right hander. Good on turn in and very good under brakes. The down side is they are extreemly noisy, the tyres make more noise that the enging. Times are about 1 second better than I have done on Yokohama A008Rs. Worth a go for any of you guys out there that run lite weight cars. They are very soft (even with their hardest compound that I was running). I think they will be a lot better on the shorter twister track we run a morgan park. As Queensland Racway could only be fun if you have more than 600hp an big brakes. Anyone who has seen a race there will know how boring it is. Victor (A Mullet and a moustache will not look out of place at Queensland Raceway, it is real close to Ipswich and I think Pauline Hanson lives next door)

I paid $200 a tyre but the sizes are limited. My car is pretty light at 970kg so it is not that hard on the tyres.
You can check with Alan at ZCar, I know I guy up here who runs the 16" tyres on a SC and he seems pretty happy with the grip. I don't think they are as good as the Dunlop Formula R D01J but they are half the price. ZCar http://www.zcarworkshop.com.au/Newsite/home.html stock them.

John, I'm sure this has been covered before but would this be the time to throw it out? (The sport-o-shatic)

Steve, thanks for the link - I will get in touch with them. How useless do you think these will be in the wet?

Victor It was very wet on my way back from the track, so I had a bit of a play and they seem pretty good until I got into standing water.
I would run them in the damp weather no problem. If it pours they would aqua plane badly. The only thing is the tyre noise drive you mad on the highway.
