Would I be crazy to even consider replacing my mint '89 Speedster for a 993?????

I'm just wondering if I might prefer the additional refinement of a 993 over the wonderful but decidely "rustic" feel of a 3.2L I love the Speedster, but putting the top up during a rainstorm is a pain in the butt. When the sun's shinng, as it is most of the time, thoughts of a 993 never enter my mind. Can you tell it's been an odd, wet and rainy year?

Don't do it, speedy!

I would love a 993... as well as my Targa. But they will have to cut my 3.2 keys away from me with an angle grinder on my death bed....

If I lived where you did, I would keep the Speedster. Start saving some cash slowly and eventually buy yourself a 930 Coupe. Then you're sorted...

Jon, is that a Lotus Carlton in your signature? Way too cool....

ThePuf,

No it isn't, but it is the car they made the Lotus out of. It is actually on of 16 ever made with estate car body, manual gearbox and 3.0 24V engine, 225bhp with de-cat. It is a wonderful family car, and quite the sleeper with 145mph and 0-60 in 7.5.

what a dilemma....keep the Speedster, they`re rare and only go up in value .993`s are fantastic cars but they`re everywhere.Don`t fall into the "greener grass"syndrome, you`ve got one of the most sought after 911`s out there.Add a 993 engine or supercharge the one you have, that`ll fix you

the 1989 911 Speedster is the best convertible Porsche has ever built.

with the swooped down windshield, turbo flares, the car looks simply stunning. you should feel very lucky to have one.
maybe some pics would be worthwhile.

here's one i found on the web of a car that's for sale for $52K, maybe one day..

Isn't this the black/black low-mileage speedster that you bought (impulsively maybe) not too long ago?

Keep it. You live in Hawaii for crying out loud.
Have you looked at a hardtop?

I think you would regret it down the road. Although I read a general article that ackowledges that the 993 is considered the be the best 911 ever made. Maybe speedster for 993 or any turbo makes some sense. Certainly any other trade would make much less sense.

Yes, somewhat impulsively but absolutely no regrets . . . . The odometer just went to 18,000 miles yesterday. Bought her at 14K miles so I'm driving her as often as I can. You're right, maybe I could find a Strosek top for her . .. but then again, summer is right around the corner.

I never liked the speedster. It's just a marketing car with no functional advantages. I'd dump it in a heartbeat.

Didn't they make the speedster to get rid of a surplus of bodies to make way for the 964? Funny how a marketing exercise can make a rare and expensive car. I still think it's one of the most beautifull 911s ever made.

I deffinately would NOT get rid of it for a 993.

Keep the Speedster. I'm thinking of converting mine to a Speedster-look.

The 993 is the finest car Porsche has ever built, I would get rid of a Speedster to have one. Then again, I would never buy a Speedster in the first place. I think you should get a car with a roof....

If having a collector's car means more to you than having an also super sexy, fast machine you can drive the piss out of everyday and not worry about it, then keep the Speedster. Who cares if 993's aren't collector's cars? It doesn't make mine any less fun to drive. I don't see too many 993's on the road, so I don't exactly feel like I'm in one of those ubiquitous gold Honda Civics. If I had Speedster, I'd drive it so hard and often, that it would not remain a collector's car.
