Kevin, your car rocks. You have nothing to move up to. I can't wait to get my next house later this year, so I'll have a garage and can buy another older 911, probably an SC. And believe me, if you go with a 964 or 993, they are NOT any less tempting to modify.

The 959 was watercooled and it pretty much paved the way for the technology of every 911 built after it, I don't see what your point is by "the thing is its still water cooled". And furthermore, there is still no coolant flowing through the case, only the heads are water-cooled.

A relative has the #3 slot at the local dealer for the 997S, he's either going to get that or sell his spot and buy a 996 Turbo S cabriolet. I'm pushing for him to get the 997, but we'll see what happens. For the record, I love the 997, the 996 is almost turning into a bad dream at this point even though I liked the 996 when it was around.

I've been reading everything about the 997 that I can get my hands on - I think it looks great!

Also sounds like they have made an effort to make it more of a "driver's car" than a "luxury car" like they now admit the 996 was.

Like most things, looks are what counts at first, and I think it is a very nice looking car. Not so hot on the wheels, and would have to see the interior in person, but I think the styling on the outside is spectacular.

Looks like a very nice improvement over the 996.

Hmmm, is the 996 the new 964, which was the new 74-77 911? The newest member of the "Unloved Orphan Club"?

The design/appearance factor is a great improvement over the the 996. The performance, I can only make an educated guess as I haven't driven one. On paper, it looks wonderful.

I'll agree and let the yuppies with more money than sense drive the first ones off the lot and depreciate them first then pick one up used.

It starts to get back to the design that first attracted me to the model.

The point is i dont have a problem with water cooled, but some the air cooled folks seem to like this 997 model because it has the looks of the 993, just saying to the die hards its water cooled. There was a thread that the air cooled engine should be brought back and this 997 would be a perfect platform for this. Thanks for lesson Zamirz

like the looks ( compared too 996) , don't like the fact that it's full of crap i don't want on a sports car...and it holds water...which doesn't hold water to me...

I like the look pf the front. I prefer the traditional 911 instrument cluster, and I dont like the 928ish tail lights.

But I need to drive one to decide if I want one

Sure looks better from the front. The rear -- especially with the cabriolet -- has a seriously 'hunchbacked' look. (Almost like a back of a Saab on the cab.)

A pretty great car, though, without a doubt.

I am still not convinced about the front. It gives me the impression of a "surprised look".... a little Beetleesque.
Those rounds light are a little too oval and inclined...

The interior is also a little bland.... Don't like the steering wheel much....

The rear on the other end is fantastic. I have seen one of what could be the Trbo and I love it. It reminded me of the RSR Turbo, with a huge wing that would go around and over the flares. I wish the rear window was shorter though... I think the engine cover should be a bit bigger

I never hated the 996 (in fact I think the "widebody" models look good), it was just too GT for me.
To be honest with you I am not head over heels for the 997.

jack

I think the cabrio in the previous post is a 996... the 997 shouldn't have the hunchback.

Well, I'd buy a 997 GT3 Cup!

But, the revised snout for the last iteration of the 996 (introduced with the 996 Turbo) was always agreeable to me, so I'd save some money and buy a used '04 GT3 or GT3 RS.

Definitely like the 997 over the 996. The 996 cup looks great but I can't wait to see the 997 turbo, GT2 and GT3 version...

There is still much doubt that a 997 TT, GT2/3 model will be made, chances are the TT, GT2/3 will be a 998 model in 2007/8.

I like it alot.

Looks a definate improvement on the 996, and have obviously listened to their customers and styled the front more like the 993.

Interior, well I will have to see it in the flesh first, the jury is still out on that part of the car.
