Rear sway bar: Weltmeister or Tarrett Engineering?
Hello everyone,
Don't ask me how but the PO of my '75 911 broke and bent (30 degrees approx.) one of the downlinks of the 16 mm Weltmeister rear sway bar installed in this car. So here I am thinking about upgrading my rear sway bar. I'd like to prepare my car for track. Actually, I think I'll go with a 22 mm Weltmeister but I'm certainly open to revise my choice. Pelican Parts sells Weltmeister and Tarrett Engineering rear sway bars. Which one would you recommend? Why? Thanks, Alain |
I havent got the rear bar yet, but I have a Tarrett front bar, and it is very nice. Great quality, and great hardware. Compared to the regular Welt bars, its much better, but I havent seen a Welt pro series bar to compare it to.

If it's a track car, get a different bar then a welt.

If i were you,i would start with upgrading to stiffer torsion bars and fresh Bilstein shocks and just replace the rear sway bar links with adjustable ones for now ... It would be pretty pointless in going from a 16 mm rear swaybar to a 22 mm one without doing base upgrades first ! Everything suspension wise needs to have a certain balance otherwise you are just screwing up the handling characteristics of your car. I track my car approx a dozen days per season with the Rennsport PCA club and i can vouch for balance when it comes to upgrades to a Porsche. Should you decide to go through with your sway bar purchase,the Tarrett setup would be my choice as well.That is what will be going on my car over the Winter,front and rear ... Once you understand the handling characteristics of your car on a track,oversteer/understeer and figure out what causes it and how to correct it then it will be time to play with adjustable sway bars,otherwise you don't really need to spend your money on expensive parts ! The rear mounts will likely need reinforcing to handle bigger bars, I got dad's car with the rear bar off. My dad fought it for 10 years. We had a lot of good times talking about the Fine German Racing Car, (his very stock but rebuilt & repainted 74).He lived about 550 miles away but i made the trip several times a year to be with him. An amazing amount of wisdom and knowledge gets imparted working on projects father/son and a lot of fun too. He has been gone almost 13 months and i think of him every day. His car is now in great shape and is my daily driver, when i don't have to drive the work truck. Wish you well, chris |

Hang in there man! Sounds like you have your priorities straight, spending your time on things that really matters. Whichever way things go your son will always cherish the time the two of you spent together. Too many kids out there who never get to spend quality time with their folks.
