horn grill rally light brackets

Could anyone tell me where I might get a set? I don't care if they are original or reproductions.

Thanks

Allan

Allan,
There are two types that I know of.
1-- Lights mount directly to the grill.
2-- Bracket comes through the grill for the lights to mount to.
(see photos)

I see repro of both styles on eBay every so often, originals - NLA, so pretty tough to find.

My 72 model that I owned in Germany came with lights in the horn grills. The grills appeared to be standard models that had the "fins" cut out to allow the light post to mount to a metal piece that bolted to the tub of the car, and not the grill as shown in the top picture above. It was like in the the lower set of pictures.

Believe that it would not be that difficult to find a set of repro grills, cut the required grill out and mount a set of lights as I described.

I notice in all these pictures that the lights are the thin cased lights. Will the lights with the larger housing fit on the horn grills as well - they are the ones you usually see mounted on the hood?

Thanks for the initial info. I will send an email about thse brackets. I need to purchase sone lights first though.

The lights that are typically mounted through the grills are the Hella 118s (original). A newer alternative ar the Cibe Tango 40s. the larger lights that you mention are the Cibie Oscars. these can be mounted to fit but will usually require different brackets. The Oscars have a much different housing and the bracket must stick out more to clear the grills.

YOu can do a search on grill mounted lights and fine quite a bit of information.

good luck.

Hood mounted lights are very different, they are much larger.

pic of my brothers car with hood mounted NOS lights.

Those lights that I have used on my '73 were just inexpensive generic lights that i bought online. (Pro-Comp brand)

I bought something inexpensive this way if it cracks or breaks I do not feel so bad. Real 118's are very expensive.

My brother has also made custom made brackets for some friends at rgruppe for there baby oscars (thru horn grill).

Pic of custom made thru horn grill brackets for baby oscars.

The ones we sell are for the standard 118's or something generic that is close to the size of the 118's.

Hope this info helps

For anyone wanting to do this, I have a set of PIAA #510s I had mounted on a '73 E that the purchaser didn't want.

I have the lights/brackets and cut-out black horn grilles (not elegantly cut, though). They bolt to the factory-style brackets, which mount on the battery boxes. PM me if you want to buy them.

The 'Hood lights' have a flat base, see photo.
