or in english :

it went bloody fast and knocked 20 seconds of the previous lap record for street cars... setting it at 7 minutes 32 secs

EDIT correction in the translation , it didn't knock 20 secs off, the dutch text said , the tradition started in 95 and the time then was 7 minutes 52... the CGT now set it at 7:32 .. dunno what the previous record was

I wonder why every Porsche factory car has that same *S GO* plate? Always makes me think of s-car-go, or that rap song by Puffy(?) Anyhow......., impressive car.

The S stands for Stuttgart, don't know about the go part.

The Gemballa GTR600 had the current lap record of 7:32.5

Can't help it.....

That car is just plain ugly in side view behind the roll-over bar... : (

wow, talk about splitting hairs

masraum 09-21-2004 09:15 AM

Nah, that car's not bad from any angle.

MartiniRacer 09-21-2004 09:23 AM

The Porsche 956 did it in 6.25.91 and this was in 1984 :) Driver was Derek Bell the 956 was rated a "sportscar" back then ;)

I'm pretty sure the Radical SR3 has done a 7:19.XXX w/o really trying. The SR3 is really getting into the gray area of a "road car."

svandamme 09-21-2004 09:40 AM

well the radical is definately not a production car, it's a kitcar
the artical mentioned production cars

jluetjen 09-21-2004 09:41 AM

Peter; Sportscar -- Yes. Street legal sports car -- not by any stretch of the imagination (excluding the Dauer 962).

Glasgow 911SC 09-21-2004 11:16 AM

Yep, the Radical is a production car and holds the record. I'd love one!

}{arlequin 09-21-2004 11:34 AM

It looks Teutonic to me. Ugly but effective. Well, not really ugly either, and its effectiveness dictates its looks. Form and function. In fact, I'm having images of the Millenium Falcon flash in my head...

nostatic 09-21-2004 11:43 AM

is he wearing a helmet?!?

motion 09-21-2004 11:47 AM

Blechhhh... that overhead shot makes it look like 2 cars glued together in the middle. I think Porsche needs some design lessons from the Italians.

Jack Olsen 09-21-2004 11:57 AM

Based on its lap times, I would describe it as a very beautiful ugly car. ;)

The Radical is ONLY street legal in the UK. Since the Nring is Germany maybe that has something to do with it not having the record. Makes sense to me and in all fairness the radical is really a full on LMP class 2 type racer. I believe Rohrl did 7:28 at the Nring according to Autobild. :D

Glasgow 911SC 09-21-2004 12:13 PM

I think the Radical is legal in Europe. I seem to remember a magazine article saying that was the case. They even drove it from the UK to get to the ring.
