And I just bought an SC yesterday. What to do?

I just today spent my $860 on the tensioner guards (safety collars), rebuilt tensioners, and the improved chain wheel supports. The pressure fed upgrade would have cost me $1360.

I sure hope this survey confirms my decision as a good one.

In the meantime, I'll be planning what upgrades I can get for the $500 I didn't spend...

It being an 83 the only thing you realy *need* to be safe isthe safety collars. It already has the wider idler base with the bushing. $20 for the collars and another $5 for the seals and some time, no problem. Shameless plug: I have a pair of used collars, $15 shipped, $30 and I'll include my old (good) tensioners.

Cheers, George

George - PM'd you...

It has been my experience that all tensioners fail except solid tensioners. When adjusted properly, solid tensioners perform perfectly and only need adjusting about every 25000 miles. They can also be adjust went the chain is stretched far beyond usable length for any style of hydraulic tensioner. I am not suggesting that you use badly stretched chains but at times you have no other choice.

George, looks like I got here late today. I'll take 'em, if you still have 'em. Anyone have specs on the collars I need? I'm a newbie at this stuff. Thanks.
