Found this old thread.

Would like to know if a 1985 windshield (with antenna) would fit on a 1983 porsche 911 SC?

Best regards,

Eric

Anyone have a pic of the antenna wire and how it is positioned in the seal when reinstalling a windshield?

My '84 Carrera has the physical electric antenna mounted through a hole in the fender.....so 1984 did not have it in the windshield.

A mod I'd like to make btw.

My 84 had an antenna in the windshield. My 85 does as well.

Wow.....I must have an early '84, it has the M491 option. Wonder if it's related?

Super old thread, but it helped me find out where the problem was. 1988 930 Cab.

I found the box behind the blower in the corner passenger side, but there isn't a wire (from the windshield..?) anywhere to be found... I do see a hole near the black box where I "think" a wire could come from, but cant fish anything out of it....

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Yes, should be a wire from windshield to amplifier black box.

It is the way to know a Carrera is an 84, the antenna if on the fender. 85 and on had it in the windshield.

Were any 1985 cars built with fender antennas?

Asking because I recently bought an 85 Targa. It has a power antenna on the fender. So I'm wondering if it came this way, or someone added the antenna. I'm not sure if it has a windshield antenna.

I have a few old Ducatis. There are no hard-and-fast rules about build configurations with vintage Ducatis--they used whatever was on hand at the time and for sure wouldn't let something as trivial as a model year changeover prevent them from using up old parts stock!

That's a very good question. when looking at the PET it shows the windshield with antenna only applicable to the 85+ cars.

when you look at the fender antenna it doesn't provide any year specific information.

I always had the assumption that all 85+ came with the windshield antenna. the 85+ windshield part numbers also cross over to the 87-89 parts catalog.

However if you look at the 87-89 catalog is does list a fender antenna, but it also specifies it is specifically for the Speedster. the speedster of course uses a dedicated windshield so that one it appears was not produced with the integral antenna. for the standard 911 windshield, it never specifies with or without antenna, so it must be assumed that all standard 911s had the antenna in the windshield during that time.

I don't have a pic on me, but the wire from the antenna is a flat braided with that is just folded against the glass when the seal is installed. there is no cutting of holes placed in the seal. the wire comes up between the glass and seal then wraps down in contact with the gasket on the inside and passes through a hole in the dash structure to get to the antenna amp mounted in the front trunk area.

I put an antenna windshield in my 84 during some repair after hitting a dear. since the fender and windshield both needed to be replaced I figured why drill a hole in a brand new fender when I needed a new windshield anyway.

I did have to drill a small hole in the dash to pass the wire through to the trunk and needed an antenna amp to connect the windshield to the stereo, but conveniently I had one of those in a drawer from a previous car I parted out.

from the factory or retrofit? I wasn't aware of a windshield antenna being available in 84 from the factory.
