Where to find 8 ohm door speakers that go with a Blau Reno or Monterey?

I'm just doing the install on my new 23 year old out of the box Blau Dearborn into my 1980 SC and I couldn't get one of the door speakers to work. I've removed it and cleaned it up but its dead .... infinite ohms across the speaker terminals while its rated 8 ohms.

I'm looking around for replacement door speakers but lots of stuff looks like its 2 ohms these days. And its not clear what size the speaker is.

Do I need 8 ohms and 5"? Thanks.

pretty sure the stock speakers were 5.25" but you can fit a 6 or 6.5" usually. good luck finding an 8ohm version today as most midrange speakers today are 4ohm. if you try a 4ohm you may fry the headunit. amplifiers are only rated to a certain ohm load, and you can always use a bigger ohm speaker but not always a smaller.

Thanks...was thinking exactly the same that I need at least 8 ohm...someone must still sell these?

Try Woody's Stereo. They do retro radios. They are on the net.

Get any speaker and add a 4 ohm resistor 5-10 Watt in sieries with the positive lead.

I thought most car stereo speakers are rated at 4 ohms. They used to be anyway. I've used 4-ohm rated Blaupunkt 5.25" speakers that I bought a couple years ago with my Monterey unit that came in my '86 with no problems at all. 2 ohms might overdrive your Dearborn, but you should be just fine with 4 ohm speakers.

Thanks but I currently have 8 ohm in the passenger door and in the rear...so a 4 ohm on its own will get all the sound...so I think I have to replace all 4 if I move to 4 ohm speakers.

To the earlier reply, I was under the impression that you couldnt put a resitstor in series with a speaker because it distorts the signal?

Resister will cut power to that speaker in half.

You could use two 4 ohm speakers in series. But look around, 8 ohm speakers are available. You're going to want to change both door speakers to keep sound the same. Also, 8 ohms in reference to speakers is impedance, not resistance, and you cannot measure that with a simple test meter.

Nineball:

How doe the 6.5's fit into the 5.25 opening? I am looking to swap out the original 5.25's out. I just removed it to take a look inside. It seems that some cutting of the door panel (soft stuff) would have to be done.

I also looked at the rear speakers --- appears to be originals --- Blaupunkt DL1525 A1. These are only 4 X 6's. Again, 5 X 7's may fit, but requirea cutting.
BTW, all these are in a 83 SC.

mine fit just fine, but i did use a small spacer that they came with. maybe a hair over 3/8" deep or so. yes, you will have to trim back the door panel a bit. just peel up the leather, enlarge the hole with a good razor and glue the remaining leather back on. it's pretty simple.

you can fit just about anything you want in the rear if you have enough imagination and know-how 5x7 should work fine, or you can get some 4x6 still.
