Sad to say, but these darn speed flashers they have all over the place here are ONE way to help me rationalize the fact that I sold my beautiful Carrera...dogdarn shame. There's 1000 of them Gatsbys or whatever they're called in Flanders, an area roughly the size of LA, for crying out loud. We feel FREEEEEE. Sure, thanks (I'm starting to sound like Arlo Guthrie's dad now - for those who don't know, his name was Woody).

The beer over here is famously good. ALL Stella ALWAYS gave you a headache the next day. It's just Pils, for cryin' out loud, a refreshing drink, and the only good Pils comes from the Czech republic. But the strong beers...mmm... plenty different ones in Belgium. It must be said that there are some excellent micro-breweries in the USA (Oreygun) and also in Canada "Trois Pistoles" and the such, decent copies of the Belgian Trappist...

Way off topic, but nice to read Pelican once in a while...

Sad to hear that you sold the car. I must say that I've thought about selling mine too. We don't have cameras, but we have intstead a police state on the roads. The speed limit was officially raised from 110 km/h to 130 km/h but in real life it was lowered. They are watching us all the time now Plus fines and punishments are way exaggerated now.

According to authorities people actually drive nicer now yet still we have the same amount of accidents. The authorities don't understand that....

Sad.

Yes, Stijn, I sold my car.
The new owner sent me a mail (after 1 month of ownership) talking about how good the car is.
So, he's pleased, and I'm pleased.
Didn't kill myself, any one else, never had a crash, got a few fines allright, went to classic Le Mans twice, to the French Alps and toured central Spain.
Today I bought a one bedroom apartment in the suburbs of Brussels, cost me the price of a 997 turbo and, well, I've had it. I'm fortunate in being a wine amateur, and having a nice cellar, a job, and going on vacation to Spain in september.
All is moderate.

Stella is always referred to as "wifebeater", but i don't get that.

The cameras do nothin for road safety, they are revenue earners full stop. We have congestion charging in London. The charge is being increased from £5 to £8 shortly and I just heard that alot of road works have been started deliberately, and traffic signals re-programmed to cause MORE congestion up to the time of the increase. That way we will feel it has an impact once introduced.

I wanna live in the middle of freakin nowhere so there's no damn politicians to deal with.

(sorry, going even more OT)

only 1 hour now until beer o'clock!

the politicians are even going to start taxing us per mile and per road over here now to try and get us out of our cars, on top of that, the train companies want to cash in by charging even more for rush hour trains than they already do, and it's already too dam expensive to use a train!

I'm moving to Italy, I've had it with this country

going really OTT now!

one explanation i once heard was the film "a streetcar Named Desire", where Marlon Brando's character yells "Stella!", the name of his wife, as he begs her to return after violently beating her...

mmm, saw the stage version of that in London a fews years back. Had a famous actress in it but I can't remeber her name. Jessica Lang I think. Getting on a bit now, but still very desirable!

heavy Belgian beer has never ruined anything except the occasional liver and an infinite number of braincells.

What about Hoegaarden? That's a Belgian beer isn't it? Sure tastes great on a hot day!
