Cayman Sneak Peek
I got my copy of Excellence Magazine today and there is a nice article on the Cayman. Looks like the guys at Excellence got invited for a sneak peek at Weissach. Sounds like it has the potential of being a Carrera killer.

is this car a 4-seater? where did i get the idea that porsche was building/considering a sedan?

I"m not keen on the front end, the expanse of the grill/intakes kinda kills the sharpness the front end should have IMHO, but it's probably the nicest overall package I've seen from them in a long time.

Automobile magazine says faster and cheaper than a 911.
|
Doesn't the Boxster have lower depreciation than the 911? If the Cayman follows suit it is going to be a long time before I can afford one (since they come in around 60k I think)

you're thinking Panamera

The article in Excellence says the 997 is still king, 8 seconds quicker around the 'Ring IIRC. On a tighter course the C-car tightens things up. Still slower in straight line acceleration. Put a twin turbo in it, which Porsche says will fit, and it's a whole 'nother ballgame. Great looking car that Cayman though.

I reiterate my screamings for a completely stripped Club Sport Cayman for something in the mid-$40Ks: no leather, no A/C, no ABS,manual windows...nothing. Can't Porsche build a damned real sports car anymore?

i gotta agree that there's not a big market for a stripped-down car. thirty years ago, my car stripped down would have been under 10k..i'm sure it was a lot of money back then, but was it honestly as much as 40k would be today? new cars are bloody expensive today..

I'd suggest that it is more likely that they would be scared that it would eat into 997 sales. |
Don't like it. Looks like a Mazda RX8 with big tires.

Too cruel Island. But seriously funny.

I got the brochure from the dealer recently on the Cayman and have been advised that a club sport model will be released in 07.
I have been informed that they paln on having three models a 3.4 motor (read old 996 power plant) then a 2.7 motor current boxster base model motor and then the clubsport with all excess weight stripped out and the 3.4 motor. If they can shed a few pounds then whilst it wont beat GT3 on power to weight it will probably be a quicker car because of the mid corner speed. Michael |
If it were the same price as an Elise, I think a Club Sport Cayman would be an easy seller.
I like the Elise, but if my dollar could buy a real Porsche rather than a Toyota-engined Lotus, I'm spending my money at the P-car dealership. The Cayman is the first new Porsche I've actually found to be attractive since the putative demise of the 911 in 1998. |
Possible RS edition? http://forums.streetfire.net/showthread.php?t=1168

Please RS!
I agree the name is...well http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/rainbow.gif But in that pic is it just me or does the rear quarter look something like a 550? http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/kwijl.gif |
The first thing I will do is take that Cayman emblem off (or emblem delete package) and put the model designation on the rear like my old boxster (986). I grabbed a 968 emblem and just swapped the numbers.... Looks much better IMHO. Too bad I do not know the model designation number yet.
