We have a new shop in Atlanta that sells Lamborghini and the new Lotus, but also carries the Porsche 356/Americana Replica series. When I first viewed the Americana 356 as a convertible, it was absolutely gorgeous with full leather, all chrome trime, down to the luggage rack and moon wheel covers. It was selling for $28,000, which I thought was an outstanding value for a total reliable 356 replica that would last years and would be totally reliable as a daily driver.

even though it's a mid engine, doesn't it upset the balance when you add a big 6-cyl motor to a 550 that was designed for a small 4-cyl?
i'd love a 550 beck, but i think a speedster (replica or not) would be more practical... it may be the size thing

I know I'm in the minority but the 550 spyders and 356's are so small everyone looks like a clown in a tiny car driving it. Don't like them.

Oh my. That is so beautiful. The thing about the little spider though is that my youngest daughter went with me 2 years ago to pick up a 911 in Philadelphia. They had one there and my daughter whose was then only 6 loved that car. I think my daughters (now 8 and 9) would get a bigger kick out of the 550 with the open top. They would love this car and pulling up to soccer practice, games and local jaunts. They always ask me to drop the top on my TT even if it is 100 degrees outside. That 904 is breath taking, but the spyder would be more family oriented for me.

I've been seeing more of these 550 replicas around the SF bay area lately.
There was an ad in the back of the last Excellence from one of the manufacturers stating that "aluminum bodies are now available." Don't recall the manufacturer's name but I'm sure a hand-formed aluminum body would really boost the price. I think a helmet might be a wise investment to go with one of these - vintage style of course. Markus '80 SC Targa |

Jeremy,
That 904 replica looks great! Added bonus: the fiberglass body would be more historically correct and a 911 motor would fit nicely as well. Regards, Markus '80 SC Targa |

250K for a speedster??? For a spyder yes, but I was questioning the economics of a speedster replica. I thought you could get one for around 50K around these days. And yes the 904 is the daddy. I want one of those with two siamesed type 4 engines. Flat 8 baby! That paint color doesnt do it for me though.
