356 registry
Anyone have a copy of page 18 of the aforementioned Registry article?. I'd like to read it. I am 99.9 % sure that is buddy's (PJ) place. I don't know if he still owns it or not. I last heard from him in 1998-9 when he sent me a piston for my 59 356. I've tried to get a hold of him over the years but not sure where he ended up. Has anyone read the article? I have a bunch of late 80's photos of the stuff he had there. He was a real sharp guy. Did a lot of great restorations for guys in Gainesville. If anyone knows more about the article let me know. When I get back to Vegas tomorrow I'll post some of the old photos.

Its an amazing article. Most of the cars are now in the hands of restorers world-wide. Nice they could be saved for sure. They called the owner Mr. Jones......if that is his real name? I'm sure it is what you are thinking of.......cant be too many situations like that anymore.

Article
How can I get the article? The site only lets me see the cover.
His name was Phelan Jones, so he went by "PJ". He had a house on "stilts". typical 60s throw back. Great guy. A lot of people were after those cars over the years. I used to buy 914 stuff from him in my 914 days. Never could get him to sell the stuff I wanted, although in retrospect, what he was asking was very resonable, I just couldn't afford it then. Wish I could have. $10,000 for a running clean no rust Speedster in 1990 wasn't too bad. If anyone has access to the article let me know. Send it to aircool356@hotmail.com thanks aircool. |

I first met PJ in 86. He brought up the bulk of those Porsches up from a sourthern florida junkyard in circa 88. That picture must be from the early 90s. I left Florida in 1990. I also have some video footage of all his stuff. My two year could barely walk and used to go looking thru that stuff. I'll dig up some more photos and try and post. PJ used to suplement his income by going to Alaska and working on fishing boats for about 3 months out of the year. He was a master mechanic and body man. But had too many projects. aircool

How did he end up with these ? Was he just collecting salvage 356s?

using that 914 as a bridge shows how many people obviously don't do their homework on rust and 914s before buying

I'll see your 911s and raise you a....60' S-60, and a 63' in a chicken coupe.
1st pic- is the 60' S-90 I found in a barn when I was 21. Sorry no pics of when I got it I went through it though, enjoyed it until all the bondo started falling off and had to let it go. 2nd pic- a 63 *chicken* Coupe. It still sits to this day in a shicken coupe. 2nd owner bought in college. As of a couple years back he wont part with it. I DID talk him out of the 65' Westy in the background though, it was cool too, for $200. Someday. .. . Bob O

Could someone explain to me why people let these cars set and rot!! I'm certain people have made offers to buy. Dan

Some people would rather let them rot than sell them. For the life of me I can't figure it out. I ran into a guy up here in the islands who has the first 911 delivered to the northwest (his father was an importer). It's all original and rotting in his backyard (sorry no pics). I've tried twice to get him to sell and he's reluctant. WHY?! He says he's not going to restore it. Strange indeed.
