bb80sc/tre/AutoInno backdate project
The first session in the booth has begun. These shots are of the base coat being applied. The base coat is applied and any imperfections that have gone unnoticed are addressed now. I'll sand the final base with a #1000 paper before laying on the clearcoat.

The clear that I use is deceptively dangerous. It smells really good and has a very sweet smell but will make you high as a kite in no time flat. You have to be doubly careful that your air system is sealed and working perfectly.

Clear applied and baked 140degree's for 30min.

Wow, who's car is that? I LOVE that color.........
Probably looks so bright cuz of the lights. Thanks for the update Kevin, it's getting so close I can almost smell that paint now!! |
Very nice. Love the green.
Are you going backdate interior too? Can't wait to see it finished. Ash |
Yep, period correct dash, lightweight door panels, RS carpet kit. I already had Corbeau seats, and rollbar. Color (what's left) is going from brown leather to black, including headliner. I may eventually get some houndstooth Nurburgring seats, or similar to complete the look. It's gonna look 'he11a' sweet!
|
Great job Kevin! One question though. If this had not needed so much metalwork...would you prep it similarly? For example, if it was a rustfree car with no color change...maybe some small door dings...would the doors come off and the glass come out? What about the fenders?
|
That really depends on the quality of the existing paint and the budget for the project. Older cars have a tendency to have multiple layers of paint, which increases the chances of new paint causing adverse reactions. When the budget allows for it I like to strip a car just to remove the risk of this. In this case I simply sanded the existing finish and shot a coat of sealer instead of primer. Primer was used only on areas the required body work.
If the paint is in good condition showing just the light fading or mismatched color I can shoot just the ouside with relative success. |
I know I am on the right track. Everyone I show these pics to LOVES the color. Do you have any pics of the special duck? I think folks would really appreciate the details of that handy work :)
Thanks Kevin... |
Thanks Kevin. That is exactly as I expected.
|
I've got the pictures of the duck but have manged to forget my card reader at the shop the last couple nights. I'll make sure to bring it home by the week end and post those pics.
