I found this interesting:
http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/car-review/ce7941.aspx "For the record, Cayman is 51 per cent 911, 29 per cent Boxster and 20 per cent bespoke. Some have pigeon-holed it as a hard-top Boxster (Porsche among them), others deem it a 911-lite." ![]() [Flame suit on]

I think there may be some misinformation there.
Of the 51% 911, what percentage is already shared with the Boxster? |

"Picture yourself inches from the speaker stack at a Led Zep concert as Jimmy Page breaks into a frantic guitar solo. Now capture all that energy and package it into a car. Voila, Cayman S."
I like that line. |

OK, all arguing aside...I thought that comment was interesting. Since the cars share so many components, I'd be curious as to what constitutes "911" and what constitutes "Boxster". Of course, I see that as a good thing...

While driving my 87 Targa down the 405 Sunday around the 110- (great day to drive to Oceanside in a 911), we saw one of those Cayman creatures with Pacific Porsche paperplates...
The rear looks quite different from the R&T pics, but I liked the gun metal looking paint scheme.... the fog light placement is a bit funky though... Last weekend was perfect driving weather!

I saw one on the freeway the other day. Flippin' sweet. I'm serious. The pictures do not do it justice.

It does look good. It's not a ZO6 that's for sure..

I saw a Boxster S today getting off the 405 at Irvine Center Drive and it had a sweet looking spoiler that made the car much more appealing to me. That being said, I'll take whatever matches my disposbale income in the future, however in the following Porsche order.
1989 911 Speedster 1994 911 Turbo S (Bad Boys Car) 1997 993 TT 2000-2004 996 C4S 2006 911 Turbo Now I got one from every recent generation.

What?!?!

I went and checked it out. Maybe I'm nuts, but I see the Cayman and Boxster as 2 different cars. The Cayman was very, very cool. Seriously. The base $ is 58.9 and I really like the standard wheels more than the optionals. These are going to GREAT used cars and a LOT of fun to mod. All you haters out there, hide behind your easy-chair and watch. It's going to happen.
The lowest cost for a Cayman, out the door is around $62k-65k. One can go out and get a very well-cared for 993TT for a little less than that. If I were going to plunk down that kind of coinage, it's going to be on the 993. But when those Caymans ... Caymen..... whatever.... get down in the 30s and 20s, look out. I'm just saying , that's all. Now, I gotta go call Todd and find out what I take with the little white ones.

I only hate the price .. well, I dislike the wt. intensely too...
Like most of the board, I too am waiting for the price to tumble in a few years... My prediction: The non-S cayman will be a lot cheaper. We will buy it in 4 to 7 years for $20k (or less), shoehorn in a 997 TT engine and stick some ceramic rotors on the brakes....

I'd still like to know where the 51% 911 came from...?? FYI I read in one of the British Porsche mags that the Boxster S may be upped to 3.4 liters (perhaps to match the Cayman S?) and the base Boxster may get raised to 3.0 liters to match the soon to be introduced base Cayman.
