6" x 15" ...OR ....6" x 16" Fuchs ?

Other threads relate to how a Fuchs can be used with a collapsible spare....

My 85 Carrera uses a 5.5" x 15 collapsible spare on a steel wheel...I'd like to go Fuchs.

I found out that either 15" or 16" collapsed spares would fit my 22.5 gallon tank "spot"....

So this question....what is the "going" price / availability nowadays for a 6 x 15" vs a similar 6" x 16" ? .. I can go either way.

Wil

6x16 is generally a bit cheaper. You can probably find a good one for $150.

6x15 (non-deep) is not going to be much more though (maybe $200)

Wil,

I don't think a stock tire will fit the impression on an 85 carrera tank. A 15" collapsible spare tire will not fit a 16" rim. I guess this means that a 15" fuchs wheel is what you need.

I'm not clear....

Option #1.....15" collapsible tire on a 6" x 15" Fuchs

Option #2.....16" collapsible tire ( from 993) on a 6" x 16" Fuchs....

Either with fit the "divot" of my existing gas tank... either can work as "spares".

15" colap

Wil,
if you decide on the 15" combination - I have a 15" collapsible tire available. $20.

Watching the price rise on the 6" Fuchs has been almost painful. (But that's what we get for wanting the stongest, lightest and still the best looking wheel for a 911- after - what - 39 years)

AHH didn't realize there was a 16" 993 tire.

I would then get the diameter wheel that matches the ones on your car.

JPNovak:
Matching the tire size to what the car runs is a non-issue too...

Case in point...the factory equipped my car with 16" Fuchs but gave me a 5.5" x 15" steel collapsible spare.

We *do* know....don't we...that the spare will always be fitted on the front..and never on the rear. Fine if the flat is on the front. When you have a flat on the rear...you're supposed to take a good front...put it on the rear...and put the spare on the front.

That way, the small diameter differences don't wonk up the differential or LSD function of the tranny....

So back to my original question..it all comes down to cost for whatever "option" I end up using...in either case I'd be buying a Fuchs of some size ( 15 or 16), and can consider buying a new 15" folding rubber ( and selling my OEM spare/tire)...or using the existing rubber de-mounted from my steely 15"...or buying 16" rubber / 16" Fuchs...

Thoughts relative to "package" price ?
