Just thinking out loud here...
![]() This may be a little off topic, but as a general fan of the newer cars (but definitately not a fan of Porsche's deliberate power restrictions) I've come up with a new line-up for Porsche. So, without further ado...the 2007 Porsche line-up: Cayman - 3.0 - 3.2 H6 w/250-275hp (the entry level sports coupe) - $45 - $50k Boxster - 3.0 - 3.2 H6 w/250-275hp (the entry level sports convertible) - $50 - $55k Cayman S - 3.8 H6 w/360hp (the high end sports coupe) - $70k Cayman RS - 3.8 H6 w/360hp (lose about 300 - 500lbs! - sharper tuned motor, etc.) - $75 - $80k Boxster S - 3.8 H6 w/360hp (the high end sports convertible) - $75k Carrera / Carrera 4 - 3.8 H6 w/360hp (the high end GT) - $75k - $85k Carrera RS - 3.8 H6 w/360hp (lose about 300 - 500 lbs! - sharper tuned motor, etc.) - $75 - $80k Carrera Convertible / Carrera 4 Convertible - 3.8 H6 w/360hp (the high end convertible GT) - $80k - $90k Turbo Carrera - 3.8 H6 Turbo w/450 - 500hp (the really, really high end GT!) - $100k Cayenne - 4.5 V8 w/375hp - $60k Cayenne Turbo - 5.0 V8 w/500 - 550hp - $100k Notice I dropped a "base" Carrera and the V6 and one of the Turbo Cayennes. Keep in mind, I feel the mid-engined cars aren't getting their fair shake, and I'm convinced that even if they do, there will still be those who "need" the 911. I also think the 911 is becoming / has become more of a GT car, and while that probably doesn't suit well with the purists, it gives a legitimate reason to keep it in the line-up if the mid-engined cars are more for the "sportsman". I think this is the direction the cars are headed now, so why not just put them there? I would agree that if the 911 becomes more of a GT, it may need about 10 more hp above the lighter "sports coupes" to help with the extra weight. ![]() What do we think? ..should I work for Porsche? ![]()

Doug, your biggest problem... this makes way to much sense..thus doomed.
Good plan,I would be looking at some your base line models. Rika |

Look at the motor efficiencies here... a 3.0 - 3.2 motor, a 3.8 motor, and a 3.8 Turbo. (..oh yeah, and the V8s..) We could build them strong like the GT and Turbo cars are now. We wouldn't have to waste time and energy developing so many motors for so many "markets"! ...too sensible?

Re: What Porsche Should Do...

Porsche has been writing checks on its heritage for years and the account is now overdrawn. I'll cut them a little slack on the LMP2 thing at Sebring, but they cant even win their bread and butter GT2. If your favorite car company is not fighting for an F1 championship, overall win at LeMans, World Rally Championship, Paris/Dakar, et cetera.... it might be time to pick a new favorite car company.

Well once I get the cars in proper order, I'll go back to top level racing again...
![]() Edit: Here again...and nothing against the awesome 911s...but if Porsche would let the Cayman S be of equal power, perhaps they could also be open minded enough to actually race the mid-engined production car? Perhaps this could be a giant killer in GT2?

Doug,
I discussed along these lines with an insider and he agrees with us. I told him that I'd rather get a used RS America or a 993 than one of the new cars. He conceeded that he drives a 964 and not his company supplied 997.....

He's been there forever and is involved at high engineering levels. Right now, $$$ is king and volume brings that (that's the feedback I got).

Wife had one of these, reminded me of a C GT that was left in the dryer to long. No power, stupid first gear , otherwise a pretty good go-kart. Sold it after 8 weeks, did survive a rear ender by armored truck rather well.

Wagons kick butt. If I could buy just one car I would love the Audi RS6. Now if Porsche would have VW design them a wagon???? Gotta love super fast grocery getters...
