Air deflector install

Just replaced my air deflector on my 88 Carrera. When I ordered a new one from Pelican the one that showed up was different in that it had a small folding flap about 6 inches long in the middle of the deflector.

Can any one tell me A) what the purpose of the 6 inch folding flap in the middle of the deflector is and B) does the flap have anything to do with me not being able to fully close the sunroof now. It lacks about 1/4 inch at the front edge and the rear does not fully come up and seal.

Any ideas?
