AC Removal Wiring Help Needed
Ac removal started by prior owner, left air diverter hoses to center vent and side vents but no air going to them so i removed. I plan to plug up side vents and use a T fitting off the psgr diverter to get some air to center vent, it will be fresh air only but better then nothing on a hot day
my question now is the wiring left behind... the cabin wire was already cut and just sitting in the gromet, so i pulled that through and am left with this... ![]() nothing connected except to its self PLUS one wire that runs (so it appears) behind the blower ![]() ![]() I assume this "bundle" must run behind the blower or perhaps within the dash enclosure to the fuse/realy? Presently I cant trace it (unless I want to pull blower and master cylinder etc which I don't because i finally got all my ventilation working! For you electrical gurus (Timmy?) , is there any issue just cutting that bundle since it does not appear to feed anything else at this end. I would then just cap the stubs and tuck behind the blower thoughts, hints, ideas? Bob |

I never advise cutting without tracing every wire.

I agree Dennis, but in this case, not a single wire connects to anything else, its just getting to the source that will be difficult..would have to tear all ventilation system out. I will check each wire for current with the car on to be on the safe side in case as you maybe suspect theres a loop in there somewhere for some other purpose
thanks for other who have removed AC..what did you do re the wiring? |

I just pulled my AC on my 83 after the PO had started removal and it all came out. Most wiring was from the smugglers box into the car to the shifter console. That was simple modular plugs and the holes in the foot well were big enough to pass the connector once the grommet was loose. The capillary tube from the console switch didnt fare so well. The rest of the wiring ran under the carpet to the rear seat, through the fender to the engine bay. I pulled it all back through the car once I confirmed it was disconnected. I dont like the design of the shifter console but like the convenience. I enlarged the switch holes and installed a dual USB and a lighter socket where the knobs were.

What about the other wire loom in the smugglers box that looks like it goes to a relay in the box and then back towards the fuse box to what I assume is the relay (round) and the actual fuse circuit (in my case its empty) I would like to removeas much of it as I can but the portion going to the fuse box takes a very circuitous route under everything imaginable in the frunk..behind the master cylinder, down to another loom. its not connected to anything anymore so i should test everything else in the car for operations and if ok, then i can try to remove/cut the tail of that wire loom that is just cluttering the smuggler box as per pictures above... tx |
