fuel pressure gauge on rail for carrera

I got a 0-60 gauge on ebay for $17 1/8" male
1/8 tap and 11/32" bit from sears, and a 90 degree elbow from a coffee can somewhere.
anywway, works good.
but, drilling and tapping the test cap means you do away with the sealing ball inside. You can assume the brass 90 degree fitting seats against the female seat on the port on the rail, depending on how far down you screw the 90. IF you're careful you can feel the 90 touch the test port seat just as your drilled cap bottoms out against the rail. No leaks here. maybe it's ghetto but It works

Jerry,
Good idea! How much does your pressure vary? Can you see the regulator open and close? too bad you can't watch it under load, that is when it matters most. I guess you could watch if your engine is on the dyno.

Nice, but an additional point of failure. I suppose if you're constantly tuning, it's helpful, but for long term use I'd be a little leary. Don't want to be negative, but...

Do any other Bosch cars use this test port? Maybe a guy could pick up a sealing cap at a wrecker and modify it.......

pp has the caps for 4.95 UNLESS they're NLA.
I put the ball and a little 1/8 NPT plug in a baggie just in case.
as far as leaks go, the only place I worry about is all the FI hose clamps around the pump up front. But yes it's another place for a leak to happen. Basically I wanted it to see how long and why I loose pressure after a day of sitting. I have a leak so small I can't find it. It's wearing on the starter more than it should. The front lines are the only think I have left to replace.

I was going to do this also.

The only pressure you are interested in with a DME car is relative to the intake. It should be constant with the engine running (always). So I got some of these.

freescale sensor

Now if I could figure out a gas resistant hose with so small an ID, figure out if Fluoro Silicone is resistant to gasoline, I would be all set.

If you are clever you can figure out how to get some of these free! (as in Freescale)

Here's mine, purchased from 944racers@cox.net via ebay-30 bucks for the gauge and an oring'd adaptor fitting. Allowed me to keep the cap. I have the same issue with it leaking down over a couple of days, doesn't seem to make it hard to start, not sure if its a leaky injector or a bad check.

I did the same thing yesterday, but modified it to have the gauge at the end of a hose. The pressure wbang on at 37 psi engine off and 30 on. For myself, I'm going to put the ball back in, and cap the 1/8 fitting I put in the rail cap. Should be fine. For $30 Cdn, I got my qusetions about fuel pressure answered. My Scottish ancestors would be proud!
