Im afraid my brothers E will beat my SC-help.
I currently have a 1980 SC-Euro version that runs very strong and has some decent upgrades, tensioners, compression and some other little things. My dilemma is that my brother will soon be completing his restoration of his 71 911E with Webers, the motor on the E is a great running motor and now he has me convinced that he is going to smoke me, with his lightweight and good running car, how do I keep the edge??

I'm not sure I would want to assist an SC owner in such a quest against a lighter, higher-spirited car in the first place, much less one owned by his own brother! But, I suppose you could always pray your brother doesn't put in a new transaxle with 'airport' gearing ... hint, hint! And, I guess you could hope your brother doesn't browse the Pelican site, too!

I dont think you'll have too much to worry about unless hes put S upgrages such as bigger valves and cams the E for 71 has 155hp
if your SC is running properly and you have the smog removed you should be around 190hp It would be a good race though I think the edge will go to the driver whos skilled with the 911 handling |

Your best bet is to get him on a straight road, throw out your interior, lose 50 pounds, take the spare tire out and put a little axle grease on your brother's tires.
You should have a small advantage if you do all of these things. If he gets you on a windy road and he can handle the car, all you will see are his tail lights if the car is running right. |

I have had the pleasure of owning versions of both of the car that will be involved in this race. My advice to you is to race him on the highway not from a stop. The E will eat you alive in first and second, but from there up you own him. One more thing it wouldn't hurt you to install an early exhaust system (pre-74). Good luck.

Little brother,
Enlisting the help of the PP experts. Sneaky thought. Seems like desparation to me. Have you no confidence? It seems the mental battle is already over. What would Yogi Berra say? It appears that you are starting 1/2 mile behind. I appreciate the enthusiasm but unless you and your car lose approximately 700 lbs., you dont have a prayer. Lighter car, flowed heads, Weber 40's, less restrictive exhaust, and saavy driver makes for an unhappy brother. Sorry to burst your bubble. But anytime is ok with me. Keep you posted. Thanks for the fun, but I too believe the "E" will have you for lunch. The power to weight ratio is just too much.
If you guys are in the New York area, I would love to drop the flag for you. Have fun!!!! |

Big Brother-
To set the record straight, your losing ways started back in '95, that is when my 88 Targa- which was worked and very fast, smoked your 88 Cabriolet-in case you didn't know it, everyone called your Cab "Gramps". You have been angry ever since and I think that your losing ways are due to continue????? |

Guys,
Is speed everything? I sold my 911 Carrera 3.2 because I find driving my slower, lighter 912E more exhilarating. But, on the other hand, my brother has a Honda del Sol with a VTEC engine and 8200 RPM's of insanity that gave my 3.2 a run! You should both be happier than hell! What a pair of cars. |

Purely in the interest of science, I ran some numbers.
71"E" 1020 kg/ 155 hp = 6.58 kg/hp 80 euro SC 1160 kg/ 188 hp = 6.17 kg/hp The shift form 1 st to 2nd with the 901 would cost .5 sec. As much as i like the early 911,I'd put my money on the SC JPIII |

The flag should drop in early March and I will be sure to let everyone know how the SC conquered Gramps. To all non believers, I shall keep you posted, thanks to all, for the fun.

Wow! This makes me think we should turn this
rivalry into an event! I have a 73E (all stock except for Aires Pistons) and would thoroughly enjoy watching and yes maybe even participating (Im with you Marc Weintraub). Where do you live? Maybe this could turn out to be more than sibling rivalry? By the way, this is the stuff that most definately keeps our spouses thinking: How old are they?? |
