Emergency Brake Adjustment?

Ok guys, I am getting sick of my E-brake comming up so high. (approx 8 or 9 clicks) I know it is supposed to come up about only 5 clicks. So, my question is how do you adjust the cable. It couldn't possibly be that hard. . .could it?

Leland, I just successfully completed this adjustment and it was a breeze. The following with my comments added is out of my Porsche workshop manual.

Place car on stands and remove the rear tires.

Release handbrake and push brake pads of rear disc brakes back so that the disc rotate freely.

Loosen cable conduit adjusting nuts so that the cables are not in tension.

Using a pin light to help you see, Insert screwdriver into opening in drum of rear disc assembly and turn handbrake adjusting sprocket(located at about 4 o'clock on the drum on my car) until tight, that is, so that the disc can no longer be turned by hand.

Repeat the adjusting procedure on the opposite rear brake.

Adjust hand brake cable tension by turning nuts at the cable conduit to remove cable slack.

Check the position of the cable equalizer located under the boot of the hand brake.
(A line drawn across both of these equalizers should be perpendicular to the line of the handbrake.)

Tighten lock nuts at the conduit adjusting nuts.

Back off adjusting sprocket at each drum by approx 4 to 5 teeth so that the brake disc can turn freely.

The hand brake should be set when the handle lever in the car is pulled up by 4 teeth of the rachet.

Leland, I have to catch myself now because I was so used to pulling the handbrake and then having it not work, that I got used to not using it. Needless to say it works like a champ now. See Ya. Mark
