Ive got an odd ducktail. It has a "spine" underneath running the length of the tail. I believe its all fiberglass.
I messaged Dave / TRE this week. He suspects it may be from a now defunct East Coast company. The ducktail is in fact from the East Coast Boston area. As we all know, Dave knows his stuff. Any ideas ? Here's some pictures, hopefully I can upload them: ![]()

I recently found out the aluminum-framed factory ducktails had that full-length "spine." But it appears this example has rust on the frame, showing it's a steel frame. Also, the contour of the tail does not look like the factory shape. Aftermarket.

Much appreciated Techweenie,
Im surprised, every search ive done and not one picture of a spine down the center. I was telling Dave tjat I swear that the whole tail is Fiberglass....all that brown discoloration seems more like exhaust or track grim... or maybe even engine fire residue. Cant be rust, ive seen plenty of that back East. |

It's possible Porsche used more than one supplier for the tails.
You should be able to tell if the spine is metal or 'glass. In any case, the profile is not that of an original. Compare it with the side profile of this genuine one.

Spine is definitely fiberglass.
Definitely not factory, but still a mystery as to what brand / company. Maybe its a one off that someone did in their garage way back when. Thanks for all the comments everyone. Sincerely, Josh P |
