Ram air

why don't i see anyone cobbling up a ram air set-up on a 911. seems like an easy way to increase power. in the normal configuration the air intake is located in a hot, dead zone....seems like the wrong place to take in air. imagine a long, conical section, scoop along side the rear window....

Just add a tail to your car and you'll have a ram-air setup.

Also, do a search, this has come up several times before and had several long threads associated with it.

hmmm. i think to be effective (to increase intake pressure) you'd need about a square ft of opening facing into the airstream piped directly into the intake. on a typical motorcycle pumping about half the volume you have about half that area

This solution:

which results to this (look for the silver hose):

seems to be the best I've seen.

There's also this:

which isn't very aesthetically pleasing, I'm afraid.

You're describing a water-cooled car's problem. On throttle, 911's suck 1500 liters a second of nice cool air through the engine compartment.

Ram air is overrated unless you routinely drive at 100+mph. Even then, your air intake must be properly configured for the mass air flow.
