If anyone wants to actually hear a M&K on their vehicle, I have two units and a set of track pipes that we keep for test purposes. One is a 2 in 1 out and one is a 2 in 2 out.

If any Pelican wants to try before you buy...I am more than willing to ship one off to you, provided you pay for shipping both ways and any damages to the units while in your possession.

(edit) I also just remembered the 993 heat exchanger version we have in stock as well...this is the prototype unit that Ben made up, so it will probably be a bit louder than the production units he sells.

Everyone who has been in my car has commented on the sound as probably one of the best sounding 911s around.

But again, at 13.6 pounds for the M & K, well that speaks volumes for the lwt addicts, like myself.

I imagine both mufflers perform very well; in fact, because it looks like the M & K has a less circuitous route from incoming to outgoing, it might have a performance edge over the Triad.

Of course, Ben's shorties are the ultimate exhaust if you can stand the intensity (re. noise).

I'm actually thinking of putting those (the Shorties) back on only because their benefit far outweighs the detriment of their loudness.

1) Evident gain in engine response.
2) Probable gain in horsepower, particularly at the top end.
3) No preceivable loss of torque.
4) Weight - a four-pound exhaust!!!

Useable excuse: "Harleys are loud too, officer."

Gauging from sound alone I think my M&K added about 100hp when compared to my old system.

Santa Clarita (cop-ville) would be the last place in CA. I'd rev up my Porsche.

Dave, I've had both. You'd be much happier with the M&K, which is what is on my car now.

Thanks.

I have no pictures, but it's a 2 in with standard 2 out tips. One side is capped right now. Perhaps you can come look at it and if time permits, hear it wail.

Jerry,

Which flanges are on the 993 prototype unit - round or oval?

Thanks,
-Scott

I'm not 100% Scott, but I think the one I have is for the Bischof style 993 exchangers. I'll check tomorrow AM and post back.

Thanks, I read about one brand you could do this with. I did not dare assume you could do it to any other brand.

I've had the new M&K 2in 1out exhaust on my freshly rebuilt 2.7 CIS for about a week now. I did the install myself with a pair of like new SSI's at the same time. It was a pretty straightforward operation because of the fresh rebuild (no rust/exhaust bolt problems thankfully). I'm digging the increased power and the sweet sounds for sure. I did a 15 second MPEG of audio and video. The glasses in the shot have tiny binaural microphones attached to them (I rigged up for "bootlegging" a few years ago - private use only on the music - but if you like Trailer Bride or 16 Horsepower - I may be your new best friend). I'm recording MPEG to Memorystick and then uploading to YouTube - so the compression of the file really didn't justify worrying about the sound quality in the end anyway. I uploaded the file to my own webspace intially and realized why the guys who started YouTube started YouTube - uploading video and pasting links isn't seemless. So I now have my first video at YouTube. Yikes.

I dont mean to sound ignorant here, but what is an SSI? I was looking at one of these M&K mufflers, and they sound nice, but I am somewhat confused on all the terminology with the exhaust system (except for the muffler). What would work best for an 89 Carrera?

Nope...stock hanger, two bolts on the rear of the tranny, arms on both sides that extend down and tie into the end the header/heat exchanger and attch to the muffler....

ssis are very high quality stainless steel heat exchangers/ headers that are similar to those used by porsch from 65-73/4. They are equal length and flow great..

as for mike you should support it with some sort of strap around the body of the muffler to ensure longivity.. It is a precaution but a good idea to save hassles later on
